Woody, that might depend on your definition of long range.......
I used a 7mm on the last long range coyote.
Yeah, I screwed up the shot a bit. That is the exit, entrance was slightly further forward as it was slightly quartering to me. I mis judged the wind a bit and the bullet only drifted about half of what I thought it would drift. Clean, cold bore shot.

I was asked to remove some hogs from a hunting lease in another state, and that any and all coyotes were fair game too. This was down south, so the fur wasn't any good. They were eating on what turned out to be a dead cow/steer. There were two of them, and at the shot the 2nd one ran off, but came back about 10 seconds later to see why she wasn't following him. You should see what the male yote looked like. After I missed him with the 2nd shot (forgot the gun shot to a different POI with a dirty bore) the male took off running and this time he didn't come back. A buddy was down the field a couple hundred yards, and ended up putting a few holes in it with his .338-06 AI. I think his shot was even better than mine as he hit the yote on a run at 300 yds. The first shot slowed it down, and he hit it 2 more times out of the 5 shots that he squeezed off.

Boy o boy, you got the good end of that deal. Get to hunt hogs and yote for free. Wish I could find something like that. Great shot and tell your buddy good shot to.

Thanks I will! I was down there for a few weeks on business, so I took a few days to drive about 8 hrs West.
That mess was made by a 180g Berger VLD hitting the yote at around 2250 fps.

Now that's a shot, hahaha. Quite the exit wound on that one.
