I don't know what your budget is, but you can get an accurate bolt action for about half what the cheapest ARs cost.
I'm not seeing any complete ARs for much under $500, and at that price expect to add a better trigger for it to be a decent shooter.
That said, ARs are a lot more fun than bolt guns IMO..

I have a Remington 700 .243. One of the most accurate guns ever made. Used as one of the first sniper rifles in Vietnam. I also have a Colt Competition .223 AR-15 CRX-16. The accuracy is verified at the factory before it is shipped. Some AR's are not very accurate.
The choice I think depends on the distance you are looking at. Wind effects .223 and .243 much more than .300+ calibres. Hunting coyotes at 300 yards I would pick a 300 Win Mag in a bolt action. 1 shot is probably all you will get in most cases. It would be the minimum for deer also. You need the power. If you don't, you may never find them. .223 and .243 are powerful enough for coyote if wind is not a factor. My two cents.

I know this is a personal preference question but wanted to see what everyone used for coyotes. You can use my 300 Blackout if you live anywhere around me. I'm just south of Indy. I do have a 300 win mag, but it's a beast of a gun and won't shoot it unless I have a big backstop.

A friend of mine in Georgia said he had an older one and the first few shots were dead on and then after the barrel got a little warm it started going all over the place and never shot good after that. I told him I was buying a new one so hopefully it'll be ok. Yep; I had an old one - bought it used. My personal experience says the chart does not lie! I have not fired a new one but every post I've read from some who has one says they have resolved the problem. I watched 3 or 4 videos on youtube the other day on them by Hickok 45 and gun & ammo tv and they all said that when they first came out with them in the 70s there were issues but they've been slowly working on them and that the ones made here in the last few years operate flawlessly.

What about a 7mm instead of the .30 cal?

Currently using a bolt action but buying a Mini14 with my tax check. I got a ruger mini14 several years back and I absolutely love it. It's great for snubbing out beavers, however I've never been song dog hunting.

What about a 7mm instead of the .30 cal? I talked with an outfitter in Wisconsin once and he said lots of deer hunters up there have gone with the 7mm.
