Coon activity drops to near nothing when temps get much under 20 degrees..,.except barn coons first warm night (30 ish) they will be all over place. Set around known den trees and put out at least three sets each. I've seen dens with a hot sow inside have so many males outside it looks like a Christmas tree in the flashlight beam hitting their eyes. 13 in one tree once... As for density, I took 63 off one field one year. They can get thick unchecked

I just didn't know what to do about them then. I hate killing anything without someone eating it, but would make an exception with yotes. I've got a fella who eats them. You're right, I haven't seen any coon tracks in the snow. Maybe tomorrow will be a little better. I'm feeding deer and hopefully turkey, but mostly birds now. The coons have not been around it. It sure was fun seeing the deer movement. I didn't see any after the first snow, but today I saw lots of tracks. It was interesting to see where they were going. I need another treestand, or two.

If you find a bunch of den trees, you'll find tracks going from den to den right now, straight line and not much more movement than that.

My daughter went with me today to check my traps. She wanted to go yesterday, but it was raining, so I wouldn't let her go. She said, "Dad, I'm not a sissy girl."
She had a good time and got to see some critters.

She had a good time and got to see some critters. The best memories I have of my daughter is taking her on hunts and checking the trap lines. When I trapped drainage ditches, I would put her on my shoulders while I walked down the middle of the ditch checking traps, she loved it.

Sometimes it doesn't matter what we do. She'll go outside with me to take the dog out ...and it's cold!

Got one more coon today. That just seems like a lot of them for this small area.

I got another one today and one opossum. This makes 9 coons and 2 opossums. My turkeys just didn't stand a chance. Do you know if anyone ever buys turkeys to get started in an area?

Jon, it is illegal to release wild strain turkeys. The DNR is afraid of spreading domestic bird diseases like Black Head to the wild flocks. It doesn't work anyway since all the do is become coyote food.( those birds are not wise in the ways of survival)

I think I saw a female pheasant today. It was a game bird of some sort. Land owner saw a male pheasant last year. His neighbors have a great area for them.

Got another coon today. I was actually surprised to see him. Might be a good weekend, but I can't have too many more. This makes 10.

Got another opossum today. This one was the first thing that I've caught in my live trap. I was afraid that I'd get a skunk.
Can I trap on private land after this weekend?

I caught something last night. It was still dark when I left to work this morning. I will check it out when I get home. I've been catching all of my neighbors 1/2 wild cats. My guess another one.
