Mbogo, Hope I don't get in trouble with Woody but if you got to www.hoosierhunting.com , JBs site, and look at some of the photos on bowfishing I think you may be impressed.

I've never done it , but I might . The gear is fairly simple and very reasonably priced . I'm just not sure what to do with the "catch" . Is there any way to make a carp or buffalo taste good ?

Thanks Woody. if I thought you felt different I would not have posted it. Kevin I wont get into eating them as I have tried numerous ways and none have worked. However we do have C52, the resident eagle at the Patoka lake visitors center plus a red tailed hawk that just loves them. They would appreciate your donations.

A noble thought Bob , but I don't see myself schlepping trash fish on a 45 minute drive for a bird snack ...

Thanks for the tip Bob, I do check in over there from time to but I don't find if worthwhile to post. I was kind of hoping that I could "ask it and they will come", lol.
Kevin, you should give it a try sometime, it is an absolute blast. Buffalo are pretty tasty but bony. That pretty much holds true for all members of the sucker family. It is possible to get a boneless fillet if you give it a chance. You can also grind it up bones and all or pressure cook it to make "salmon" patties. Once you try white sucker or buffalo like this you will never settle for real salmon patties again.
I have an older neighbor back home that loves carp so he gets most of what I shoot because I don't eat them. Whatever he doesn't want goes in the woods to feed the racoons or goes back into the water after its gas bladder has been popped to feed the turtles. It is important to remember that carp are an invasive species and everyone removed is a benefit to native species.

Bowfishing is how I got started bowhunting. We used those old solid glass bows with solid glass fishing arrows. Used to kill lots of carp. Then we heard about hunting deer with a bow and things have not been normal since. Mbogo, you are right about suckers, they are very tasty. The way we fixed them (haven't had any for years) is to fillet them(skin on and scaled) and then score (make cuts all the way through the filet's but not through the skin about 1/3" apart). Fry them up crisp and the bones are not a problem. I have tried carp many ways, all guaranteed to taste great, BULLSHEET. I will admit I have not had them smoked or canned and would give that a try.

In Nebraska they love carp. It is sold in the grocery stores smoked. So maybe you could look for some smoked carp recipes?
