Called in with a baby cottontail. She held up about 120yds then I switched to rodent distress and it ran along the woods line in to 70yds and stood there facing me with its tail at 1oclock. Ranged her at 70yds I dropped the crosshairs with 1 mil holdover and let the 345gr slug fly. Dropped her on the spot. Entry was in the chest just in front of left shoulder and exit was 4 inches back of right shoulder. Destroyed both lungs and hit the heart. Love hunting with air rifles!

Nice shot! How about a picture of the gun? Yea. You are just teasing us when you say you got it with an air rifle and don't give details about the air rifle. Heck that is the most important thing in your post. What brand what model. What caliber? OK now that I have looked at the next post and seen the photos (thanks for those btw) I'm still curious to know more about the gun and how much some thing like that costs. And how loud is that gun? I would be interested in an air gun that was powerful yet quiet so as not to disturb the people or livestock near where I'm hunting. Coyotes are moving into more urban areas like the Red Foxes did and an air gun might just be the ticket to thinning them out. Congratulations on getting the coyote.

Ok I'll bite. The rifle is a stock .457 Airforce Texan. It is not quiet! Think between .22cf and .223 loud. It can be quieted down with an RL Shroud considerably. The rifle is $1000 without glass. The shroud is $165.(future purchase) They also make an aftermarket stock that is over $300. I cast my own slugs and mine likes the 330gr lyman .458/.459 hp mold. In pure lead it comes out 345gr sized to .457. The rifle is shooting them 807 feet per second for almost 500 foot lbs of energy at the muzzle. I have shot 1" 100yd groups with this rifle. The Texan has a 499cc air tank and fills to 3000psi.The Texan comes in .308 and .357 for the same price. The pellet/slug You can get into the bigbore game for around $600 for a sam yang 909 or a benjaman bulldog. A higher powered .25 or 30cal is capable of taking coyotes also inside 50yds. I would recommend at least 100fpe for body shots and 40-50fpe on target for head shots. (My modified .25 Marauder shoots up to 80fpe and I would take a coyote with it no problem) You will also need a way to fill the rifle with air. High pressure compressors range from $600 boosters to $5000 compressors. You can also use high pressure hand pumps. $80-$200 depending.(paintball ships and dive shops will fill tanks also) I have a hand pump and I have a shoebox compressor and 68cubic inch 4500psi carbon tank. I'll have a 88 cubic foot 4500psi tank by next season. I hope that about covers it?

How many shots can you get out of one tank of air?

2 or 3 with the .457 Texan shooting heavy slugs.(810-780fps)I can get 10 with 143gr round ball. They shoot upwards of 1000fps. (Not as accurate past 50yds)The .25 Marauder can get 32Lower power 40fpe shots and 7-9 around 65fpe and 2 or 3 at 75-80fpe. All depends on how you tune the power on these PCP air rifles and what you plan to shoot. (They have power adjusters)Most of the big bores 45 and up get 2 or 3 high power shots. I've never needed more than 1 shot with the .457 it's a beast. The .25 is great for a day of small game hunting. Or a night of racoon killing. If I feel I might need more air the 68ci tank will fill the Texan 3 times and the Marauder 6 times. Think paintball tank that's basicly what it is but holds 4500psi. Also I should add my Marauder is modified in stock form it is a 16shot 40-45ft lb rifle. Mine has had valve mods and opened up air flow through out. From the outside it looks stock.

The nice things about air rifles with moderators (silencers, etc., whatever you want to call them) is that there is no wait time or ATF Tax Stamp needed. It has to be permanently affixed to the gun I believe (i.e. pinned) and not able to be used on a firearm.
I've seen .177 cal air rifles that has moderators that were running around 900 fps. They were PCP models, and you only heard 2 things. The hammer hitting the air valve to release the compressed air, and the pellet hitting the target.

Liking that airforce gun! Have been looking at the escape SS for squirrel hunting myself. Already have a marauder pistol and a hatsan at 44 qe. The air forces seem very well made and have some nice features
