I'd like to get into trapping, but have no idea where to start or what to start with. Does anyone have any advice? I live around Indianapolis (not sure if that helps).

I'd like to get into trapping, but have no idea where to start or what to start with. Does anyone have any advice? I live around Indianapolis (not sure if that helps). Go to trapperman.com that is a great place to read and learn. There are disuctions on mink, otter, rats, coon, bever, yotes, traps, sets, snares, fur put up, you name it it is there. The archives have some great threads in them. I have learned a bunch from it. GOOD luck and let me know what you think of the form.

Go out to Hoosier Trapper Supply and talk to Charlie. He will not steer you wrong. He is obviously a trapping store but he will not sell you stuff you don’t need.

Go to hoosier trapper east of greenwood. Charlie will set you up with all you need to begin with. He is great to just ask questions and has all you will need and his videos and YouTube/Facebook will show you enough to get the idea. Trapping the first can be tough but after that you will get the hang of it. Like others have said he won't oversell you anything you don't need nor only push his products but his will work great.

Looks like I've got some reading to do over the long weekend. Thanks for the advice, and I'll be stopping in to Hoosier Trapping Supply asap. Thanks!

It's worth going to Hoosier trapping just to look at the taxidermy he does.

One word of advice on trepperman is ask read a lot before you ask alot. Their archives are rich with info. They kind of scold for asking questions that have been asked 500 times

It's worth going to Hoosier trapping just to look at the taxidermy he does. They’ve done the three deer that are on our walls. Still waiting on my sons deer hide, but they do a great job and are very friendly.

I don't know what kind of trapping you are interested in but hoosier trapper has a starter kit that is good. I recommend the mb 550 of you are after coyotes. They are more expensive but the best trap you can get without modification which is more advanced.
