HIP Number

Are HIP numbers State Specific? For instance, I buy a NR license in Texas and will be hunting a migratory bird, and apply/get a HIP number when I get the license.

Now I come back to Indiana (I'm a resident here and have a lifetime comprehensive Hunting/Fishing license) and want to hunt migratory birds, do I need to get another HIP number for Indiana? Even though I may be hunting the same species?

The Harvest Information Program (HIP) is a program of the US Fish and Wildlife service. It allows a method for the USFWS as well as individual state to track harvest information related to migratory birds and waterfowl. The program, while it is a national program, requires you to obtain a HIP number for every state you hunt in. IN short, if you hunt in Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, you will have to register for HIP in Indiana, Illinois, AND Kentucky.
