Coyote and downed deer

Is there any rules or regulation on if a hunter shoots a deer in an evening hunt and does not find the deer until the next morning and over night a pack of coyotes finds and pretty well strips the deer clean, is the hunter still by law to tag this deer.

An individual is required to make a reasonable effort to retrieve the crippled or wounded animal and include the animal in the person's daily bag limit.
