with more makers of cell phones including IR / thermal cameras built in , do you think this will violate the rule "The use of infrared sensors or electronic deer calls to locate or take deer is illegal. It is also illegal to hunt or to retrieve deer with the aid of an infrared sensor or to hunt deer while possessing an electronic deer call."

Cell phone technology has definitely advanced over the years. We have always viewed cell phones as a safety device that a person could use during an emergency situation. The safety aspect of the phone has outweighed the possibility of the violation of the fair chase. The Indiana Administrative Code has not kept up with technology. Most people do not consider their cell phone to be an electronic call. However, if a person is found to "use" the device in violation of the regulation, the situation would be handled appropriately. We are NOT going to write a citation to everyone carrying a cellphone while deer hunting. We actually encourage people to have a method of communicating with emergency responders during emergency situations.
