While hunting waterfowl, what is the legal ramifications of lead shot in the car and not on your person? Had a buddy get worked over a few years ago over this and while never got a ticket they sure gave him a hard time. I hunt many different things like squirrels and crows on my property so I usually have a couple of boxes of lead in my truck. I keep them in there and of course hunt waterfowl on the wknds. Use steel shot but in the back of my mind I wonder what they would say if they checked my truck and found the lead while I was hunting I hunt about 200-300 yds from my truck. Thx.

A person may not possess toxic shot while waterfowl hunting. Most officers would consider possession of toxic shot to be in a hunters possession if the hunter could reasonably be expected to have immediate access or control of the shot. Toxic shot in a person's vehicle, without more, would not be considered to be in the hunter's possession while he is in the field.
