Hello everyone. I’m a deer hunter and only rifle hunt. I just moved to Hendricks county. I am looking for someone that would be okay with me hunting their property that doesn’t ask for thousands of dollars just for a day or 2 of hunting. It would only be me and I will clean up my brass and be courteous and follow the rules. I would also be okay with hunting with someone just for the thrill of hunting. I’m from Iowa and even though I’ve lived in Indiana for a few years, I don’t have a lot of contacts or people I can reach out to for land to hunt and most people already have their land leased. Any information or advice would be awesome and appreciated.

I know you stated that you just moved here but your request will be looked apon with suspect because some of us here have been burnt by this before. There are great people here. If you stick around and get to know us there is a good chance some doors may open for next year. There is some good public hunting in southern indiana and it has been talked about on many occasions here. You may have to purchased a different firearm to hunt it but it would be cheaper than a lease and you would have it for next year. I honestly wish you luck I my self could not invite you if i wanted because i am the only person allowed to hunt where i do. Others are in the same posision. Onebentarrow.

I appreciate the advice. I did think about getting a bow but I recently had surgery on my left hand from a work injury and don’t have 100% flexibility with it back. I help a few farmer during harvest season but they hunt their own land so I don’t want to ask or give them the wrong impression but I could give whoever references if asked. I do plan on sticking around for a while since it’s close to work I just work a lot and meeting people is hard. It’s unfortunate that there’s people out there that ruin hunting on private land for the responsible hunters. I will take your advice though!

There is some great public hunting ground in Indiana, but depending on your weapon if you can use it. I'm from southern Indiana and during archery season most public land sees little hunting pressure. If you can't pull a vertical bow maybe a crossbow with a crank. You don't need to spend 2 grand on a crossbow to get the job done. There are several 300.00 xbows out there that are very capable of killing deer. Also you can pick up a good used muzzle loader cheap that you can use on public ground. There have been some very good bucks killed on public land here in Indiana
