Running and gunning. Had a gobbler answering me for a while. We circled each other getting closer and closer for 30 minutes till he went silent and disappeared. Maybe he didn’t disappear and put the quiet sneak on ya? |

Had some gobbling going on just before daylight and silence afterwards. It was a cold but nice morning to watch the woods come alive and be out there! Back at it tomorrow morning!

I hunted until 9 then went to work.
Lots of gobbling all around from the roost, nothing close though.
I'll be out again tomorrow morning, maybe even a little this evening if I can get my chores done.

Had several sounding off early. Span tried his best but clearly not very good at it. Plan B for tomorrow.
Landowner said we'd be the only ones hunting. Trucks in the fields proved that was fake news. We never saw them hunting or heard any shots. Plenty of real-estate but would rather communicate with them to make sure we don't mess each other up

Had a pretty good day today. Sat in a field until around ten or so. Been seeing gobblers in it regularly but of course they don’t show up today. Did have some hens come out and one was in the decoys for a long time. Went and sat on a pipeline after the field and had a hen run across and one gobble not 5 minutes after I sat down. He would only gobble at crows, so I just called every once in a while to let him know I was there. He went silent for a bit and some crows flew over and that next gobble was much closer. I got ready and soon saw a red head bobbing through the woods. Behind him was another one in full strut, just spitting and drumming like crazy. They just wouldn’t come close enough to the edge of the woods for me to shoot. I could’ve shot, but didn’t feel comfortable with it and it’s only the first morning, so didn’t want to spook them. They just wandered off down a hill and never made another peep.

Second biggest disappointment I have experienced behind learning the truth about Santa/Easter bunny at the same time. |

A bunch of birds this year, which means alot of hens and they were still with the 2 strutters-at 12:30. Busted one young hen off the nest. Saw a wad of Jake's about 6 together. Friday looks good for field birds anyway. Hopefully some of these hens give up

Trying an evening sit. Haven’t done one in a couple years and I’m remembering quickly what a long boring sit it can be. Anyhow the farmer is fertilizing on the other side of the farm so I held off on where I was going to sit. Time will tell….

We have been set up for about 90 minutes. So far, nothing. Jake and hen decoy out about 20 yards.

Just saw a Tom with 3 hens. Didn’t want anything to do with the decoys or calling

She all bundled up. But, she is getting cold already. Not sure how long we'll last this evening. I haven't done any calling for about 45 minutes now. I'll try again in a few.  |

Five jakes feeding on the other side of the field. One had a 6” beard or so.
