Sitting on my deck this morning having my coffee and watching the birds and squirrels at my feeder.
There are a couple bare spots in my back yard and a squirrel was wallowing all around in one of them. He seemed to be enjoying himself.
Do squirrels dust themselves like turkeys do?

I like to dust them with salt, pepper, garlic powder, a little cayenne and some flour. Haha

I've read before that squirrels rolling around in dirt was a way to get relief from a skin irritation or perhaps fleas.

I've seen it a few times. Figured same, knocking off fleas or itching mites.

I know rabbits do so I'd assume a squirrel would enjoy a dust bath.

I dusted a squirrel once. Real close range with a 12 gauge…..I mean real close range. Vowed I won’t do that again. Too messy

Squirrels prefer taking a dust bath to clean their coats and keep free from parasites rather than washing in water. Squirrels roll in the dirt, twisting and tumbling in circles to remove grime, loose hairs and excess oils from their coat. Squirrels have extremely dense coats which can take a long time to dry if they wash in water. funintheyard.com/how-do-squirrels-bathe/
