I don't know Ohio law. Is it really necessary to have written permission to hunt on private land? I've never had more then word of mouth permission to hunt on land I don't own in Indiana. In Ohio, you are required to have written permission to hunt on private property. This is the peliminary charge, but suspect there will be more charges added. Feel bad for the young man, but also feel bad for the landowner and other hunter's that were chasing this deer. I say this isn’t his first illegal Deer ….probably his first time getting caught though! BTW….Indiana has the same private property law as Ohio…..AKA TRESPASSING! www.in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wildlife/files/fw-Private_Land_Permission_Form.pdf

It's required over here for any activities. That's one of the first thing they'll ask for if checked. It takes all liability off the landowners incase 9f any accidents.

If true,...... does it really ruin his life? I have read his name several times but couldn't tell you his name. Maybe some know it well but I can 100% say most folks have no idea what his name is. Only know that one big deer killed in Ohio in 2023 was poached. Which most people believe is true for all monster deer because the big antlers make people do dumb things and every year there is another example of it. Bummer for sure. True…..I don’t believe he will have any felony charges but he will obviously be publicly embarrassed but life changing not so much in today’s society IMO

I've made it through the first hour of the podcast so far. Its all about his families housing difficulties and why he doesn't have a job. He only made $4000 last year but somehow bought a $3000 compound only to sell it later for $500. One thing I noticed was when he was talking about his 150" 8 point from last season. At first his buddy found the matched set of sheds from it and gave them to him. The second time it came up, he found one side and his buddy found the other.
I don't feel sorry for this guy one bit. He made the decision to poach this deer. Then he posts it all over social media and does a 3 hour podcast about it. I have a feeling every time he told the story it was a little different version.

I haven’t listened to the podcast, can anyone help me out? I’m reading he shot it at his sisters property? Where is the discrepancy in written permission?

That was his story, alledgally he took it there and field dressed, and took some pics. even called a CO to come look at it. Sounds like it was killed somewhere else, probably won't know for sure until case is closed, and ODNR releases the info.

Punishment still wont be enough no matter what it is. They all get off too easy, heck look at Chris Brackett and that Bowmar family who are both still making money hunting after the crap they both pulled...

A rumor I read was that the buck resided on some wealthy family's property that hasn't allowed hunting in half a century and that the kid snuck in (trespassed) and killed it. I also read somewhere that the County DA was after the buck too. Lol!

Last big deer poached by a Amish guy in 2018 had the $500 fine, plus restitution fine to state for market value of deer of $23,000. The Alexander Buck is valued at $30-$50K depending on final score, that's a pretty good hit to pocket book, esp. for a young man. The worst part will be shame to his name as vocal and as much attention that he seeked, Both North America Whitetail and Outdoor Life did stories on deer, which now will have follow up poaching story endings.

If people weren't trying to feed and "farm" wild animals and save them up like money or cattle, NONE of these discussions would even be happening.
It is hunting, or it is farming, can't be both.

Same old story hopefully it's legit but world class bucks are always going to be scrutinized so you better have your together Myles Keller once told me that when he was after a certain buck he would contact the local county CO no matter where he was hunting. If he killed the buck he was after he would again contact the same CO for verification. STILL he was accused of shooting some of his big bucks off the road grader that he ran for a living That was just one of the fallings out he had with P and Y I think the smartest thing you could do would be to call a CO right away if possible and have him verify everything.

If people weren't trying to feed and "farm" wild animals and save them up like money or cattle, NONE of these discussions would even be happening. It is hunting, or it is farming, can't be both. I own my farm , a working farm , I also farm for wildlife. Sure it can be both and it is perfectly legal. (Both bring me a lot of joy and satisfaction.) Don't understand your point or thinking at all ?? This young man did not own any land, nor does it sound like this buck was 'farmed" as you put it. It just happened to live majority of it's life on a large chunk of land that hunting wasn't allowed, which allowed it to grow to maturity. By all accounts this young man trespassed and killed it. END STORY.. Wild animals are just that, WILD. Planting food plots or applying any other management practice to a property doesn't change the fact the wildlife is free to come and go as they please.

I finished the podcast. It seemed like he sure was enjoying the attention he was getting. He talked about a C.O. questioning him towards the end. If I had to guess, I think he brought the deer back to his sisters property and staged the kill scene. He mentioned that he already had a lawyer hired but that was just to handle all the people wanting to buy it.
I couldn't imagine being the guy that was trying to kill that buck legally and this low life sneaks in and poaches it. I hope the fines are hefty, but it sounds like this guy is probably living off of the tax payers already. I don't know how they will collect them.

I didn’t watch all of it. Maybe ten minutes after the 55 minute mark. Got pretty sick of it. - It was as a clown show.
I don’t know who the one guy was but he stated that “recurve crossbows were not accurate”. Something about it was a good thing the deer was close.
I cut my crossbow teeth on an recurve limbed Excalibur Exomag and it was a tack driver. Undoubtedly the guy shills for another crossbow company
