I switched from vertical a few years ago. I hunt mostly out of a Summit climber which has a good rail to rest the crossbow on. Without a rail, I can see how a crossbow would be very awkward. Perhaps even worse for saddle hunters.

I switched a few years ago because of a bad shoulder. With surgery a couple years ago it's good now. I was able to pull the Matthews bow back this year, but I didn't feel good holding it more than 30 seconds. I know I could build back hold times, but at 62 I'm not sure it would be worth it, plus the strain on the shoulder. I decided this year to stay with the crossbow. Good article.
