Out shed hunting in Cass County today and came across a healthy looking doe that appeared not to be dead very long. She had foam coming from her mouth. Think EHD?

Doubtful EHD , just too cold for midge flies. Could have been hit by car and had internal injuries, maybe internal parasites , etc.

Rabies, Bovine TB, I am sure there are others. I do not think foaming at the mouth is an indicator for EHD.

EHD is transmitted by the Midge Fly. Current temperature conditions are not supportive for it to survive. Deer, like people do get sick , there are multiple possibilities, but EHD isn't one of them. Found a dead fawn in mid-May last year laying on the edge of an old pond. Reported to DNR with pics. Did not hear back from them. I would report, but I am doubtful they will respond. Even emailed Joe Caudell , he answered, saying too early for EHD, most likely died of other causes.

Could be anything. Lots of things will cause foaming at the mouth. Not only diseases, but plenty of poisons too. I think nightshade can sort of do that (we once had a sheep bite a whole plant, you know what had to happen in the next few days if you know anything about sheep and nightshade). She was foaming at the mouth a little.
Beestings in bad spots could also do that. Especially if it's in the mouth and they have an allergic reaction.

Healthy looking... but dead? Yes. That can happen with some diseases and poisons.

Sent DNR pics. They emailed quickly and we discussed the doe. They were not terribly concerned at this point unless other deer are found in the area dead with similar conditions.
