Does anyone know if you can hunt groundhog at Lasalle or willow slough? I know they're around, i've seen 'em, but i cant find any information saying you CAN...

Yeah well, that whole "better to ask forgiveness than permission" thing, i'd try that with my wife; but the conservation officers might take a different view of the matter.

Alright, just got an email back and groundhogs are off limits at lasalle. Oh well... I find that hard to believe since it is a F&WA and groundhogs are not regulated. I believe that I would ask for clarification on why it is not legally allowed. |

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner Joe, groundhogs are not hunted on any Fish & Wildlife areas statewide. The reason for why they are not hunted on FWA’s, is because on our areas they pose no threat to habitat management and/or our overall mission on FWA’s therefore it was made into a rule that there would be no open hunting of them. I hope this helps clarify why we don’t allow groundhog hunting. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
