A cavaet...
I would support that requirement for deer hunting but not for:
1) Varmint hunting.
2) Turkey hunting
3) Wildlife photography

I can see it mandatory when blaze orange is required. Unlike others on this forum, I would not wear blaze orange if I was not required to do so.

Yep, when blaze orange is required for other hunting purposes, then yes. Squirrel hunters are required to wear orange during firearms deer season, aren't they?

Then why should a varmint hunter be required to have a hunter orange on a blind that he uses when he doesn't have to hang it on a log, bush or tree he is behind? 2) Is hunter orange mandatory during any turkey season if there is no blind involved? Then why should a turkey hunter be required to have a hunter orange on a blind that he uses when he doesn't have to hang it on a log, bush or tree he is behind? The IDNR caught three kinds of hades when they tried to make the fall gun turkey hunter wear hunter orange - just when they were moving about and a hunter orange sash above the tree they were siitting next to. 3) Are wildlife photographers, hikers, horse back riders, flower pickers, picnickers, mushrom pickers,. etc, etc, etc required to wear hunter orange when a field? If we made them (non-hunters) all wear hunter orange every time a gun was in the woods aren't we sending a wrong signal that guns and hunting are dangerous? If we required the non-hunters, inclduing the wildlife photgraphers to wear hunter orange how about requiring bowhunters to wear hunter orange when squirrel season is in? As I said, use the hunter orange where it is NEEDED not just a blanket approach..

Two or three wrongs dont make a right ....Do we have to have "Tombstone" Technology before we do the right thing? ....“Tombstone Technology = when there are enough tombstones the technology gets fixed or changed

My career was one of being an Industrial Safety Specialist so I do know a thing or two about safety and safety rules. I also know that the worse thing one can do is pass a silly blanket safety rule. Bacically one that is not needed. A silly blanket safety rule will be ignored AND those that ignore that rule will start to question or ignore every other rule that they don;t agre with - even the ones that are valid. If hunter orange is required for a particular hunting time/method then by all means it should be required to be on the blinds.

BTW - Since this poll is in the Deer Hunting section I'm guessing that the poll is for deer hunting ONLY right?

Yes...that's a good starting point One that I agree with, but we will discuss down the road any other steps in the "covper them all wth hunter orange" debate.

In my opinion hunter orange is a good thing when ..oh let's say deer hunting with a gun during gun season..BUT it's use for all season's such as turkey season,oh one could put a piece up on the tree that he's near but I don't really think it's needed.Varmint hunting it's definetly not needed,I shoot prarire dogs a lot up in South Dakota, hunt coyote's an awful lot and it's surley not need there....Use it where needed and don't just apply something when it's not!!!!!!!

I expect that some folks already put orange on their blinds for safety reasons. Hunters are injured in "accidents" all the time, should we ban treestand for our own common good?

tickman1961.. Good point...I have three good friends that have been seriously hurt while deer hunting and all three injuries came from them falling out of the tree, all three of these men have more time in the tree hunting than most guys do hunting period and putting hunter orange on them or their tree wouldn't have helped one bit...use it where necessary and let it go when it's not needed!!!!!!! Hmmm what about safety belts when climbing??Should it be a manditory thing to use?

What ever happened to using good ol' common sense and identifying your target and what's behind it before shooting?I always make sure if anyones gets close to me that I get there attention and I make sure what I'm about to shoot is in fact what I'm after and what may lay behind it...If blaze orange was to be madated,it should be for public land IMO...I would never step in the HNF without it...

I would say this about hunter orange, and where and when to wear it or display it. IF your on the ground and guns are in season WEAR IT. if your up in a tree or rised blind and it's squirrel season mark your blind. The key here is why wait for someone else to make you safe.
