OK...
I have not had my Omega out of the cabinet in 4 or 5 years (maybe).
So long ago I have really forgot which bullet/sabot combo I used back then.
I have some black and some green sabots.
I also have some SSTs and some JHPs.
I "think" that the black sabots are for the SSTs and the green sabots are for the JHPs. True?
I would prefer to use the SSTs, but as I remeber it they went down the barrel HARD.
The 777 I have is pretty old too. Throw out about a half a can and buy new?
I do need to get to Red Brush range and do a little shooting as I wll be heading for Illinois Thursday to wrap up that gun season.
TIA....

I have never used 777, but I have heard that it doesn't have a long shelf life. A buddy of mine burnt a small pile of a couple of years old 777, and a pile of new 777...BIG difference in the burn! I'm sure someone on here can help more than I.

The SST's are the same as the T/C yellow tip Shock Wave bullets and they use a black sabot. Yes, they load hard and they need to load hard for best results. As long as your powder was stored correctly (dry) it's still good. Load a couple and see if it shoots where it's supposed to and your set. Clean your nipple before you go hunting with it.

Woody, Typically Black sabots are for a .45 cal bullet and green ones are for .44 cal bullets. (.50 cal ML) If you've got both black and green kicking around then you probably have 2 different size bullets as well. Better measure them and match accordingly. The new easy loading SST's will either be yellow sabots for TC shockwaves or red sabots for Hornady low drags. You can get a box/20 of low drag SST's from Natchez and you'll have it 2 days. ($10) I disagree with loading hard for best results. When you can touch holes that's pretty good results to me. Get the SST's Superslides or Hornandy Low drags and you'll be very happy. (These are the same bullet as Hornady makes the TC shockwaves) These sabots have a lower durometer plastic that slides easier down the barrel. I've shot 100's of these with fantastic results. Savage ML II, It was new last year and fell in Love with it, the different load combo's and the knock down powder, plus the range iam shooying out to 250 yards with confendence, and hitting a 8" circle so iam happy with that, now i just have to see deer, plus i still have a Buck tag left. so iam excited about ML season

I think that the black sabots that I used are made by MMP - Muzzleoading Magnum Products. The petals seem thinner on them than either the Hornady green or blacks.
Does Dicks or Ganders carry the SST's Superslides or Hornandy Low drags?

Does Dicks or Ganders carry the SST's Superslides or Hornandy Low drags? They should have the Superslides not sure about the low drags. I'd call before making the trip if its a ride for you. Their stock levels are surely getting low by now. Even Wal-Mart carries some of the superslides.

Woody, this is my 2 cents, I shoot the omega and have had great results with 150 grains of pyrodex and 250 grain shockwave superglide bonded bullet, Shot 4 deer with in 2 seasons and the deer didn't take a step after the shot.
I can hold a .5" group at 100yds on the range, swabbing in between shots. Its by far the best shooting gun I own.

I made a run to town...
Stopped by WallyWorld and thEy did not have just thE sabots. They did have the SSTs and Super Glide sabots in combo package. 15 for $16.97. I thought that was a little steep and I already have the bullets.
Anywho ... I went on down to Gander and they had the Super Glide sabots. 50 for $9.99. They also had the combo 15 package like WallyWorld had only $2.00 CHEAPER.
How about that?
Will be heading for the raneg in the morning..
hoosiernavy29,
Thanks for information. I do like the Omega.
Is the "shockwave superglide bonded bullet" any different that what I have?

T/C packs 250 Shockwaves with their Omega's. The 250 SW are .452 diameter and use black MMP sabots. The green sabots are .429 diameter and used with .429 bullets, like 240 XTP's.
Use the 250's with 100 - 110 grain of loose T-7 or 3 T-7 pellets. It should shoot 2" or better @ 100 yards. h.h.

The only issue with the black saboted ones, they are harder than hades to get down the barrel after the shot that is why TC created the super glide. It goes down smooth even after the shot, but will still shoot the same as the orginal shockwave. Also not sure if anyone has posted the Shockwave is the same as the SST both made by hornady just different colored polomar tip. Good article on TC Shockwave bonded www.tcarms.com/proHunterJournal/index_detail.php?id=5

Woody, I just went and made two shots with my Encore PH. 100 grains of loose 777 and a 300GR Hornady SST w/ Low Drag Sabot. Both shots at 100 yards. 2nd shot was a dirty barrel reload.

It is becoming clearer to me now... The black sabots were something else to get down the barrel. I recall shooting and then trying to reload with a dirty barrel and I had to put the ram rod against a tree and push on it to get the bullet to seat. Hopefully the Super Glides will take care of that problem.. Good shooting Hoosier Hunter. I would take that any day of the week.

Bucks should start replenishing and if there is still a luke warm doe around that is where she will be too. Hopefully I can fill that Illinois buck tag Thursday or Friday and be back in time for the Indiana MZ season..

Woody I think you are right about the black sabot MMP , I use them and 2 /50 pyrodex pellets with a 250g Hornaday in my Encore and it is lethal. I see by your last post that you have solved the problem . Good luck in Illinois .

Had a rep give me 15 of those, i will buy them in bulk from now on, they are quite a bit easier to load into my optima pro. One other note, not sure why but i tried the 200g shockwaves, i literally had to take a hammer to beat it into my bore, in fact i couldn't get to slide at all, and with only one good hand available, i just ended up shooting it back out. So if you know of anyone thats wants them let me know!
