There has been alot of news of "Wolves" recently being shot and killed in neighboring states bordering Indiana so i was curious what would you do if you encountered a Wolf

Shoot it on sight. Even if I was in my sunroom or at my kitchen window.

;d
Shoot it. In my eyes, it's an invasive species just like zebra mussels and needs to be kept in check, regardless if hundreds of years ago they called this area home. Things have changed, and they don't belong here.

Open up the barn and offer him up a spring calf for breakfast.

A fair question. I can see there being honest disagreement on this point.
I'd shoot it because it would almost certainly be an escaped pet with a lowered fear of humans, and therefore dangerous.

Really don't know what I'd do other than report it. Mostly we have a lot of issues with stray dogs being dumped out into the countryside, due to the economy. This is MUCH MORE of a problem then a wolf sighting.

I'd leave it be, but report it. I have no desire to tangle with a 150 dog that kills to live, especially a wounded one. My cousin had a couple of those wolf/dogs, never could bring myself to trust them.

It's funny to read that wolves are not native??? Another reason why I don't like that since we get to pick an choose what is native or not and what is desirable or not really drives what we call native.
I probably wouldn't do anything unless it was a pest. I think there is a state law against shooting exotic pets/animals in Indiana not sure if wolves are on that list.

When I think about the safety of my family...I would take it out. I see no other logical option.

Wolves were at one time native and indigenous to Indiana, so please lets try to be more accurate.

Considering I have cattle around my place, I would not treat it any different than as yote or stray aggresive dog. BANG BANG

As much as I like it that, around here, humans don't have to worry about anything hunting us in the woods, I'd probably leave it along if it weren't hurt (desperate for easy food), unafraid of humans (means not wild and won't be able to hunt for itself, i.e. desperate for easy food), or in the middle of town or a neighborhood... If it's out in the middle of nowhere in the woods, well fed, and in good shape, I'd leave it be.
Just for the record, wolves, cougars, and black bears are all native species here... We just wiped them out, the same way we did to the American Indians who were native here... I'm not for reintruduction, but if a species of animal (not referring to Indians, here) finds a way to come back to its native lands, I'm not going to kill it for doing so. They are all more native here than we are. Eradicating them really makes us no better than Xerxes...
You guys who are so scared to not be the baddest thing in the woods, and are scared of something hunting you, should stay in Indiana, for sure, and stay away from CO, the northwest, Canada, and AK...
Mike
