Deer like the buck pictured www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=375975635821576&set=a.178187788933696.46968.166269100125565&type=1&theaterhave be cropping up over the last couple years, do any of you think the dnr should lower limits on antlerless tags in areas hit hard by EHD. I have heard of a gentleman up in Lagrange county finding 25-30 deer dead this year on his 160 acre property, do you think lowering the limits would help the heard out.

I haven't seen any data from the season to this point, so I can't say yes or no.
If there are counties that show a significant decrease in kill numbers then yes, it would make sense for the DNR to lower the doe quota permits available in those counties.

I asked Chad Stewart about the EHD impact..
1) Do you have the final impact of EHD?
From the past the DNR is slow to drop bonus numbers as the EHD counties seem to bounce back pretty quickly. EHD is very spotty and what happens in one part of the county may not be a factor in other parts of the county.

Personally I have seen A LOT more deer this year than last year. However, I have heard a few people say they have hardly seen anything this year (that was me last year).

I have hunted 3 different properties in Miami and Cass county this season and the does are almost non existent at each one. This has been the worst season i have ever had and it's not even close. A lot of people i talk to are saying the same thing. Seeing one deer any more is a success for me.

I hunt in Washington and Orange counties and have seen plenty of does this year.
But then....there wasn't an outbreak of EHD in those two counties (as far as I know).

How about you get some data first PS? You keep coming up with all these things with why "you" aren't seeing as much deer, maybe it's just you. IMO

Not sure that EHD is the culprit, but the ground that I hunt in Clark County seems to be void of deer this year.
I talked with the land owner this morning and he told me that the locals aren't seeing much of anything.

I have talked to a lot of people and over 90% of them are having the worst years they have ever had. Few deer sightings, even fewer doe sightings. Not sure what is going on, but here it appears the deer numbers are way down.

I've seen a good number of deer this year and more does than bucks; both on my place and the one in Brown Co.

EHD hit certain areas this year which had an effect on Deer hunting and Deer sightings this year.
The Drought last summer effected many Crops and food plots which may have altered Deer feeding and travel patterns. It also effected water sources for Deer.
Certain areas also had a lot of Acorns this year so many Deer in those areas seemed to stay in the Hardwoods instead of feeding in the Crops or food plots.
Also as a result of increased Doe harvest over the last 10 years, there are simply less Deer in certain counties and on certain properties.

No one up high cares about the deer population all they care about is selling tags and the revenue it provides for the state. They are depleteting the resource. Not many adult does in some areas. Yes there are tons of deer in private underpressured areas.

It's isolated pockets that have been affected..like Woody said, it can have an affect on one corner of the county and 5 miles away things are normal...I personally had a great yr and never seen any EHD affected deer..my area are doing great and we all seen plenty of deer this yr...
