I had a little 6 pointer walk in on me this morning, he came within 5 yds of me, but I let him walk. No sooner than the little 6 left, I had 2 more bucks start across the field towards me. After a few minutes of them taking their time coming across the field, this 8 pointer gave me a broadside shot. I slightly overestimated his distance, and spined him. I had to scare the other one off to get down and finish him off. This is where it starts getting ugly. He was spinning in circles on the ground. I got a second arrow nocked and shot him again ... only my strap with carabiner got caught on the bow string, and that arrow hit the shoulder. Blood was pumping heavy out of both shots, but I wanted to put him down quickly. I nocked another arrow, and sliced his neck - I have eye dominance issues and forgot to close my left eye, which threw my aim point off. I settled myself down, nocked my last arrow, closed my left eye, and put my 40 yd pin in the middle of the boiler plate, which hit its mark. As he was coming across the field, I thought he was bigger than he was. Regardless, I've got meat in the freezer. I recovered 3 arrows and 3 broadheads, and the one arrow that hit its mark gotten broken off and lost the broadhead. I think it's buried in the ground, but I couldn't find it.

Congratulations!
Yeah it is tough to have to take multiple shots to kill one, but that sometimes happens..

At least you got him down; would be far worse to loose him.

His leg glands look awful active for this time of year? Trick photography He wasn't stained or stinky at all. I checked out the glands when I cut the holes for the gambrall.

The buck is now quartered out and aging in the spare fridge. Since I was missing one broadhead, I was extremely cautious when working around the arrow holes ... and I found the missing broadhead. It had completely penetrated the spine and was stuck in the loin on the far side with about 2 inches of arrow.

Well congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you! I felt bad giving up the New Pal land; I was going to take you and predator hunter there. I feel so much better seeing this post.
Wow man, what a story. I would have been a nervous wreck. I panic when I see them suffer; I just can't stand to see anything in pain. So, I'm guessing that one isn't allowed to shoot it to finish it off??? I haven't been carrying my handgun anyway, or I may have shot him. I don't want a ticket, so I guess I'll carry a #6 iron just in case.
I'm just so happy for you! Hey, I'd like to come over to help you process him. I need experience.
