I'll be bringing either the 260 or 25-06. My son likes his 35rem or his 308.

I will get my Dad's old 30-40 Krag out for at least one deer. I am thinking of a Marlin in 35 Rem or 45-70. Also in the works is a 16 gauge New England fowler.

Mostly my 444P, handy, good power and the places I hunt here don't give shots over 150 yds. Jdub is chomping at the bit to use my 260. No doubt the gun he shoots the best.

I recon the 30-06 might be accompanying me on long walks. Kinda silly that if I hand it in a hand gun, I could use it this year.

I'll still be carrying my remington 870 or my 44 mag. revolver. I don't own a rifle or have the funds to buy one and our property is so thick I have never had a shot opportunity longer than what my shotgun is capable of.

Maybe a 25-06, 243 or a 270. Whatever caliber I decide on it will be a bolt action and more than likely a Ruger or maybe a savage. It will be a good excuse to buy a couple of new guns....

I'll probably stick with the Savage ML-II in .45 cal for most hunting. But, for one area where we post and one or 2 guys walk thru a thick stand of pines that is in the middle of a huge open field, I'd probably take the Remington 742 in 30-36. I haven't used that for deer since 1979 or 1980! Way more deer have gotten away then have been downed because nobody is close enough with a slug gun.
There is one farm that I can hunt on where the numbers of hunters are less than the fingers on one hand, and the shots could be LOONNGG (it's 3 1/2 miles from end to end). I'd love to be able to use my 7mm Allen Magnum instead of waiting until I'm in Wyoming or Colorado.
If I wanted to pack a lightweight gun and still hunt, I could take the .243. It's under 6# with scope, magazine full and sling on it.

I'm with Woody1071 358 Win uncut. I'd probably slip out a time or two with my Model 70 .270 though.

Rifles are more accurate and have less of a recoil than slug guns.

Remington Model Seven "Whitetail Classic" in .243...or my newly acquired Marlin 1894 .44 mag
I've never put the Remington on paper, actually tried selling it with no luck. Might be a reason to keep it if it passes.

I'm not choosing a high-powered rifle to gain more distance. Same here. Never have had a shot opportunity more than 150 yards in 15 years of hunting. And 150 yards was maybe once or twice. Only shot that far once...missed. The vast majority of my gun hunt shots have been 50 yards and in. Longest harvest was 75 yards. That's not going to change unless I start hunting other properties than I do now.

I will likely Use my custom 8mm or my custom 30-06 with the loads I have been making .The 8 mm is a great deer hunting gun even in the woods the bullets are heavy and the gun shoots like a dream...
