Went out to S Dakota several years ago.The first day of hunting was miserable. My brother let me use his theracell the next morning. After the morning hunt, I drove an hour and fifteen minutes to the closest sporting goods/Hardware store and bought one. I now have 5 of them and wouldn't trade them for the world.

I have two. I love them and they have saved me from mosquitoes in the turkey and deer woods! Great investment

The negative comments are rare, but I guess every product doesn't work the way everyone expects.

I haven't used mine too much but the skeeters are horrible this year in one of my woods. I was out the other night here in the urban zone and I don't think I would have stayed without it.

I would not early bow hunt ND without one. I was recording my brothers hunt and my thermacell ran out. It was awful, i was backed up to a slew and a few minutes after it ran out I was eaten alive.

That would certainly be a test run; not so sure it would work on them.

If a deer smelled the thermacell he smelled you too ..... I'll have to ponder this a bit. I try to take as much scent precaution as I can. While I know full well deer can still smell me if I don't play the wind, I am still leery of flooding the air with extra scent after trying to eliminate my own scent as much as possible. I'm still doing some research on it before making my decision.

I recently purchased one, but haven't used it for deer season yet. I know our evenings on the lake this summer wouldn't have been near as enjoyable without it this year.
Does anyone know if the scented ones are worth it? I've got the earth scent pads and wonder if this would spook deer over the scentless ones.

Greetings Looked at the price and its a lot of money I can buy a lot of" oh so soft" lotion by Avon for that. Yes woman's skin lotion it works against the midge. And I smell lovely with nice soft skin, when I am the right side of the wind or up one of my high seats deer never know I am there. This is not a wind up we do use it, honest Regards Billy

I'm still doing some research on it before making my decision. I gave up with the whole "scent elimination" game a long time ago. No scent free laundry soap. No scent free showers. My scent free regiment currently consists of two things ... wear rubber boots and try not to touch anything while walking in or out. I did buy a smoker last year and was impressed by the initial results of my trial so I will be continuing to use it this year as well.

Still one hundred per cent agreements, never tried to cover scent over here, stay upwind or up high and you are going to get deer. I've shot two hundred deer a year without it. And using ladies lotion on face and hands. Just an easy way to get your money out of your wallet, that's my experience for what it is,worth. Never wash your stalking jacket, that's about it. Regards Billy

How do they not spook deer? How much do they cost? How long do they last? The Thermacell gives off a light sweet smell so it will attract the young deer. I have had a young doe come in to about 10' from me just smelling the air. When she ran off a big doe thought the area was clear of hunters because the young doe didn't alert on me & came walking through, so she was my first bow season deer of last year. The repellant pads last about 4 hours & they give you 3 pads with each fuel canister so that is up to 12 hours each fuel refill. You can get this one at WalMart for only $19. www.walmart.com/ip/ThermaCELL-Insect-Repellant-Olive-Appliance/19206345I took mine to a friend's house yesterday to help him build a yard barn. I had it turned on and no one close to me got bit. The night before everyone was getting bit & they had repellant on.

I think I'm going to give it a shot. Mosquitoes really bother my daughter and when she gets bit she seems to be almost allergic and gets really big welts. Maybe we'll save her with Thermacell this year.

Keep an eye out for the refill packs on sale. I buy 'em when they are on sale whether I need 'em or not. As long as I have 2 bulk packs here unopened, I'm good.
We used them in Wi. this Spring, but the wind was blowing, and the skeeters were the worst the locals have seen in over 40 years. We had 2 going in the boat, and I had long pants and a long sleeve shirt, both sprayed with 100% DEET. My 2 buddies laughed at me for wearing long pants and long sleeves (they didn't know I sprayed down - silly city boys!)
They were shorts and t-shirts. After 20 minutes I had to take them back to the dock. They couldn't stand the skeeters any more. After it got dark, the skeeters disappeared. BUT, if you had a headlamp on for more than a minute or 2, you couldn't breathe for all the bugs that were flying around it.
They have their limitations (wind and running a trolling motor) but I love 'em. I agree with Woody. If a deer smells it, it'll smell you too. You can fool a deers eyes and ears, but never it's nose.

I am sorry that I waited as long as I did to try one. I got one this year at Walmart for $20 and purposely went to a mosquito "hot spot" to test it. The results with it on/off were convincing. The more enclosed the area the better it worked, but I tried walking with it through the swarm and it seemed to help (on vs off). I have some earth scent pads but have not used them yet but rest assured I will test them October.
