We've got a red fox lying on a big tree stump about 60 yards from us. Thought it was a deer at first.

Had a doe at 25 yards and as soon as he put his finger on the trigger something bit her on the back and she ran out of range.
Then an 8pt came out and we had a misfire. After putting another primer on and letting the nerves calm for a few minutes, he missed. The buck still hung around just out of range until dark.
Not a bad first day of deer hunting. He's ready to go back.

Well,it was a bust for me and my daughter. Saw nothing this morning, Im sure, due to wind direction. Hunted a different spot this afternoon and busted a good out of that woods, at 3 in the afternoon. Saw nothing the rest of the hunt. Also disappointed in the report from my trail cam. A total of 15 pics in 2 1/2 weeks in an area that is usually high traffic and the biggest deer was a small basket 6. Hopefully they are just hanging out in the corn, which I found out from the farmer, should all be out by next weekend Off to the Colts game in the morning, so no hunting with the daughter until gun season. Good luck everyone.

I've got a different kind of youth success story for tonight: Since I didn't feel any of mine were ready for the youth hunt, I took them to the Indy 11 soccer game tonight with their soccer club. I caught a T-shirt and my wife won $111 for their 529 college fund! Then they announced you won something if you found a yellow youth soccer sticker under your seat ... and I had a yellow sticker under my seat! Unfortunately it turned out to be the wrong yellow sticker We were seated behind one of the goals, just to the left of it. The last warmup shot before the game would've blasted my daughter in the face (and I mean blasted!) had I not double fist punched it away an instant before impact. Victory Dad Anyway, it wasn't an evening in the tree stand with any of them, and there was no venison added to the freezer, but we watched a beautiful sunset from downtown Indy, and it will be a night they won't soon forget anyway

My daughter did not want to go but the buddy I do most all my hunting took his youngest daughter yesterday evening down to my farm. My wife and I were eating dinner in Hazelton at The White River Inn when I got a text that she had shot one. My property is less than 2 miles from where we were eating so we finished up our meals and headed that way. My wife walked about 1/2 mile wearing heels.... lol. I helped drag her to the truck to save Rob a trip to get the Ranger then my wife and I returned to our evening out. A little dirt on the shoes and a smidge of blood on my pants ..... 75 yard shot with a Ruger 77/44. Deer ran about 40 yards and piled up after a double lung shot.

Congrats to the successful hunters. My son got his first buck yesterday morning, and he was wound up when we seen him go down. It was an awesome morning.

Beautiful start to the 2014 youth season: Didn't see a deer by 10:00am... said we'd give it until 10:30 and then pack it up to come back out this evening when we were seeing more on cameras. And at 10:05.... he dropped her in her tracks at the edge of the field and.... the hero shot: you mess it up... you clean it up Congratulations!!! Way to go young man!!
