Just seeing one is a challenge to me, so I'm good with any of them.

That would be a tough one. Depends on how late in the season. if it's early, knowing I have two 10 pointers that trump him I'd be tempted to let him walk but if it's late in the season he's getting high-fived by a Muzzy no questions asked

You just need to put your time in. You will get one. I spend most of my free time researching and trying to better understand the whitetail deer and their habits. It is a lot of work but I have a real passion for hunting deer. Best of luck! Hope to see a picture of you behind a mature deer this year. How much did that deer weigh in your photo? He looks like a horse. It field dressed 234 lbs.

That would put it over 300 lbs on the hoof. Big deer.
My first deer, I bet was 300 on the hoof. Didn't have a scale though. Haven't got one over 240 live weight since.

He better not walk past me! I'm on 120 acres and I'm pretty sure my neighbors would smoke him if I don't. This in no way shape or form is meant as a blast, but this expression is one I've never understood. The buck will either make you personally happy or it won't. It truly is that simple. Don't let other hunters and what they may or may not harvest impact your hunting....trust me yes it SUCKS when you let a deer walk and the neighbor shoots him, just last year I let a great 2 1/2 year old 8-pointer walk...he was dead not 20 minutes later.....but there was a chance he'd live and I knew I in that moment would have regretted shooting him with the mindset I better or else someone else will. Everyone needs to get back to the concept that hunting is a personal thing, and only one opinion matters to whether we shoot or not; that is our own. I don't let my father's opinion, my neighbor's opinion or any of your opinions affect whether I send an arrow towards a buck. If he trips my trigger he gets shot, if he doesn't I admire him and bid him farewell. Again this isn't an attack at you mattbrewer or any (and there is ALOT) hunter that feels similar I stress to just focus on what you will be happy with and live with your decision. Makes hunting a lot more enjoyable in the long run.

Makes hunting a lot more enjoyable in the long run. This is a really good point Mr. Miller. If it makes me happy, I'll shoot it. This is the best way to look at it. At this point for me, they all make me happy; it's just the time in season and how tired I am that will impact a trigger pull. The draw hunt was fun as I didn't think about not pulling the trigger. If it passed by and I had a clean shot, I was taking it. Of course, this is the purpose of the hunt.

I forgot to add...there is an exception to the rule of not listening to any opinion.....the only time that someone else's does matter is if you are not the owner of the property and/or have someone dictating what can and cannot be shot (Jon's example made me think of this). At that point it is your decision to abide or look elsewhere. Otherwise everything I stated I stand behind.

I hear ya and I certainly don't take it as an attack. Personally I'd be happy with that deer because of the context that I hunt in. Looks to be a good solid mature buck. Will he be bigger next year? Probably. Would I let him walk if I owned 2,000 acres? Probably. That doesn't mean I'm not happy with him on my 120 acres today. I'd be tickled pink to shoot that deer. IMO context does matter. It changes expectations and outcomes.

I THINK I would let him pass but it is hard to say what I would do spur of the moment. Looks about the size of the deer I shot last year (maybe bigger) and looking at his body tells me he has some growing to do. That is my reasoning for passing.
