Anywhere you hunt in Indiana ...."Indiana hunting laws and regulations" are basically in place other then highfence! Anyone know where there not followed in Indiana? Don't some military bases have their own restrictions? Big Oaks has their "special hunts", right? I've never been there but I thought they had a muzzleloader hunt in October or Early November. Yeah their dates are different for sure as some other places....But the tools used and other regs are basically the same.Guess my point was I am not sure there any place that don't follow some type of Indiana regs when hunting or be exempt.

Newport did not. Army set seasons and bag limits. Last 2 seasons I hunted there gun opened in october with archery. When that happened I asked the guy in charge of natural resources and he said federal installations are given the ability to manage differently than state regs. Maybe that has changed. I don't know.

I stopped by Pigeon river on the way to Elkhart this afternoon. There was NOTHING posted on their board. Even took down last years notice. Fired of emails to State Sen Long and rep Oder expressing my disappointment and telling them it needs fixed by opening day. For all the good that will do. The first go around was all wrong, I guess we should not be surprised about their "fix". Makes you wonder about a lot of laws they pass.

I believe muzzle loading rifles will be alright. It all comes down to classification. Everywhere I've seen, Indiana classifies muzzle-loading long guns and muzzle-loading handguns. I have not seen muzzle-loading rifles listed anywhere.
That doesn't mean I'm not wrong, I just haven't seen it yet.

This may also affect anybody that uses PCR rifles on private land. Don’t forget now that these rifles are included with all HPR’s you may only be able to carry 10 rounds on your person.

There shouldnt be an issue with only 10 rounds at a time. You could still carry a sidearm if protection is the concern.

I'm curious if that is an issue for many people? I can't recall a time since starting to use rifles where I've carried more than 5 rounds.
It's a silly rule without a doubt....

Shells are typically sold in 20 round boxes. A box fits in a pocket easy enough. I can see me grabbing a box instead of a few shells. Last year i gun hunted 1 day. Shot a buck and missed a doe. I would likely always carry 10 shells

For most people it won’t be an issue, nor with me. But you know there are some people that do put a few extra in your pocket. Just something for those people to think about. I hate seeing anyone pay a big fine or something so trivial. And I hope that all COs understand what a mess this is Code is when they come across someone is violating this mess.

I've occasionally just put the box of .357 in my pack instead of just putting a few in my pocket- where I tend to leave them, end up washing them, etc. I'll be looking at other options now

I hate to see the poor schmuck who kills a trophy buck on public ground with his .44 mag rifle and then finds out that the DNR is going to confiscate the deer and charge him with poaching even though he shows the CO the Hunting and Trapping guide that says he's legal.

If ever there were cause for officer discretion this is it....
A hunter going by an official release, in print, should not be charged with any wrongdoing if an officer believes they truly did not know any better.

I doubt they spend that kind of money. Their probably just go easy on the tickets!
Anyone ever seen a figure on how many Deer Hunters hunt public land? 30-40%? Or lower then that...

Since we all know that banning PCR's from public land was not the General Assembly's intention, the right thing for the DNR is to unofficially "overlook" any of those violations this season.

Here I am a non-resident who bought my lisc. in late July, I checked the regs. online when they came out and was set to bring my 450 Bushmaster. Had it not been for this forum I wouldn't have had a clue I would have been breaking the law. Glad I'm a member here it saved me from breaking the law and possibly being fined. They would throw the book at me being a Non-res. Never in my life have I seen regs. change after being printed or put online. All I can say is WOW!!!
