My Dad took these pictures from my tree stand tonight. Looks like a domestic red hog. I don't know of anyone around us raising hogs. What's the rule on this? Can I harvest some free range bacon? An archery hog in Indiana would be pretty cool.

I know what I would have done.
On one of these forums there is a post from 12/5/2014 that talks about the taking of exotic mammals. I believe it says that you can shoot domestic swine, but I'd look into it before going ahead.

Absolutely, shoot the swine. Cut it up and feed the family, definitely don't want these things running around the state.

I'm pretty sure it's legal to shoot hogs in indiana. I beleive they're considered and invasive species.

Carefully research the law, but I'd lean toward "liquidation." Every wild hog we have except some imported stock came from escaped domestics, so in very short order a wild pig and an escaped domestic are virtually the same thing. Pigs are absolutely incredible survival machines. Extremely weatherproof, omnivorous, adaptable to virtually any environment and can breed at six months of age. If that thing was a preggers female, you'd have a herd in a few months. I hate to see the things spreading! The damage to native plants via rooting is horrible.

My sister has a "pot belly" pig that just ranges free through her yard and a little ways off into the surrounding woods. It's probably 150 pounds, not sure if it's pure bred or not. He's a neutered male, so he won't be making any more, but I warned her that he's liable to be shot by a hunter wandering through the woods like that. Especially since there has been a few real wild hogs around here for the past 30 or so years.
