They won’t be in business long…. At least with deer recovery IMO Being prohibited from using thermal pretty much kills it for them. Body heat is pretty important when searching forested areas. There are probably not enough Amish crossbow hunters in Indiana to sustain their business anyway. Lol! Not to stereotype, but almost every client of the Ohio drone guy fits that description. Biggest population of Amish in US are nestled in OHIO….. They control the deer population never doubt that.

That has been a pretty interesting series to watch. I've probably watched 90% of his videos. He is either from an Ohio Amish community, or at least closely associated with them -- he speaks Pennsylvania Dutch at times in the videos. My thermal and nightvision is of the same optical quality as his, but mine is "handheld" (rifle and helmet mounted.) Sadly, the State won't let me assist in deer recoveries with them, and without a drone, I'd be limited anyway. That makes sense the other day i watched a video and i thought he was having a stroke. Guess it was Pennsylvania Dutch

Do you have to have permission to fly a drone over private property? It would be some sort of trespassing in the State of Indiana I would think If you have an ffa permit to fly it its really no different than flying a plane

I doubt they would give a hoot about a private individual and a drone.

Does anybody know the current legality of using drones in Indiana to recover deer. I didn't read every post in this thread, so I apologize if it is already in here. Also, do you know if the hunt featured in this video was legal per Indiana rules. He is tracking with dogs and makes another shot on the deer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWv6BHq3mXY&t=634s

“a person may not knowingly use an unmanned aerial vehicle (as defined by IC 35-31.5-2-342.3) to search for, scout, locate, or detect a wild animal to which the hunting season applies as an aid to take the wild animal”. hunt-indiana.com/thread/62724/radios-deer-huntingFrom the above regulation : Drones may be used in the attempt to locate deer that have already been lawfully killed.

Technically any deer harvested or recovered with aid of a electronic device would not be eligible for Pope and Young or Boone and Crockett record books last I checked. LOL, ah .

I don’t think it’s legal…..but it sure would be tempting! There was an incident a few years ago south of Louisville where a man did shoot down a drone that was flying over his property. His teenage daughter and friends were in the back yard suntanning and the drone, allegedly, was flying over repeatedly and very slowly. The father took it out with a 12g. The drone owners showed up at the house and confronted him. He was armed with a pistol and informed them that they would be next if they didn't get off his property. They came back with an officer and he was issued some tickets, one of them being destruction of private property, and maybe taken to jail. If I remember correctly, discharging a weapon within city limits is the only charge that stuck. That father is a former sub-contractor of mine. He is what I would consider a very educated redneck. I would have paid good money to be in the courtroom to hear him give his account of the incident. Under federal law, a drone is classified as an aircraft. Therefore, damaging, destroying, disabling, or wrecking a drone could result in federal criminal charges under 18 U.S.C. § 32, which deals with the destruction of aircraft or aircraft facilities.

Sounds like they just legalized a form of hunter harassment. "Oh, I was just looking for my deer I MIGHT have shot."

I'm willing to bet that if the thermal recovery get allowed that for every one recovered there will be at least two deer shot from information found while using the thermal viewing. Learn to do it the old fashioned way, blood trail your deer.
