Of the items posted in the attached article... dailyjournal.net/2024/03/21/indiana-dnr-considers-deer-hunting-reform/...I agree with some, and some I don't. Will this ever become law in Indiana? It appears not, but I would support its inclusion in the muzzleloader season. The argument about crossbows sharing the archery season with conventional bows has been debated and changed and I don't see that changing back nor would I support that happening.

The argument about crossbows sharing the archery season with conventional bows has been debated and changed and I don't see that changing back nor would I support that happening. The crossbow in archery season is a dead horse. It would not surprise me that there are more crossbowers in archery season than there are compound bow hunters. We kill more deer than they do. The ONLY reason there was ever a crossbow license instituted was to placate the “organized deer hunting groups”. Up until 2012, when crossbows were included, all hunters using crossbows (handicapped and late season) hunted using the archery license. There is no legitimate reason to have a separate license.

Interesting read. I'm not sure whether I would support the antlerless quota changes or not. I don't really care about the crossbow license change. I use a crossbow instead of a traditional bow and have been having great success with it in the past few years as I have gotten to understand it better and to get a better handle on my wits. 3 of the 4 I shot last year were all crossbow, one doe was a muzzleloader harvest.

This time next week, I will be on the 40 pushing East around the 20 hour mark of driving, should get into the cabin before dark Thursday. Got some plans in my head and been watching the weather, saying rain on T/F/Saturday so far. Hopefully that changes. Wanted to get the mowing done Friday and spray. Not looking that way. Want to get two plots in while there, get some more brush cut in the area we hunt. At least want to get an elevated platform built while there, then next time in, get a box built on top. Might get a little further along on that one, depending how much scrap wood we have around. Move two tree stands as well. Try to thin out another little area toward the back of the property. Having a tractor would sure make things nice. Plan on that one next year maybe. Gonna rent a little walk behind 26'' brush cutter and tiller for this trip. Should make for a little help anyway. Will post some pics along the way and as things progress. Hoping the weather lets us get a few things done...SF Woody

I've seen them with a bucket on the front and also they had a rototiller on the back. Might want to see about calling around. The hours saved would sure make up for the cost of rental. They might deliver and pick up too. Never know unless you ask.

Two Tom's walked up the front yard this morning. So far, I've seen those two clowns and one hen. This winter there where 3 Tom's and 11 hens. Not sure what happened to the other turkeys. My guess the bobcat. I see those 3 almost everyday.

I checked Tri County, they have a Kubota B26TL little bit more than the brush cutter and tiller, but you also have to rent implements you want for it, comes with loader and backhoe. My trailer won't carry it, little big for it, there is also a 150 fee to drop off and pick up. Good thing about Tri County is, you rent on Friday a 1 day rental, it's not due back till Monday. So this trip, think I'm just gonna have to put in a little more manual labor, be good for me though. Next trip I'm planning on renting that. Thanks for the input..SF Woody

Good luck and enjoy the time. To send positive vibes your way... NEVER count on the weather forecast in Indiana. 😉 Thanks, I will really enjoy my time home. I definitely won't count on the weather man. Already showing lower temps that weekend and cloudy mid 50's, no rain now on Friday. Hopefully those temps climb a little for the weekend. Next few days looking really good and warm until Tuesday. But I know back home, might as well look outside that day pretty much to check...lol. Really looking forward to getting home...SF Woody

Not much in the way of season prep. But, I have been gathering a lot of pallets to build my new hay wagon blind.
