Hey Everyone, Just FYI – the annual deer management survey will go out to anyone we have a valid email address for. So if you have members, folks who visit your blogs, or email lists, be sure to let them know that it will show up in their email. It can take up to a day for all of the emails to go out from Qualtrics (the platform we use for our surveys). Each link is unique and can only be used once, so they will not want to share it with anyone. If someone does not get a survey, they should check their spam folder. If they cannot find it after a couple of days, they can email DeerSurvey@dnr.in.gov and we will help figure out what is going on and ensure they are sent one. This is the annual opportunity to have input into deer management including future quotas, what they are seeing on the ground in terms of their local deer populations, and this year we have questions about the use of drones and cellular cameras for deer hunting. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Joe

Done……good to see questions about trail cameras this should end the doubt of how popular they are!
State Legislation Is about to make a Drone/unmanned aerial vehicle and infrared devices legal so them questions seem like a waste of time.

Drones are the hot topic along with cell cameras. State Legislation Is about to make Drones legal…. DNR not needed! If needed State Legislation can decide on cameras also….

I did complete survey. My guess is a license fee coming for drone use,and my guess is they will put regulations on cellular cameras use on State lands during deer season. (Several western states don't allow during season). Doubt they will regulate private land use, although I would be fine if they did. JMO

JMO The reason for camera restrictions on land out west is outfitters/hunters are circling water holes with them… seen a pic with almost the entire edge had a camera in place! Indiana isn’t “out west” …. BTW….. The amount of game killed on public land is minimal compared to private land.

I had seen that. BUT DNR could limit use on State owned lands. IDK. Have always looked at tracking and recovery as part of the hunting experience. Both are becoming a lost art. Even the use of dogs, for me at least, would be a last resort.

But the reality is that banning both (or either) would be hard to enforce.
