You are in the minority then. I've checked deer at several different stations over the years and I can't ever remember anyone checking the sex or that I locked the tag on.
As for the biologists actually looking at the deer, that's a simple problem to fix- set up shop at a processor instead of a check-station. The only time I've seen a biologist anywhere, anytime, is on the first weekend of firearms season anyway.........

Yes, it is a bothersome deal to some of the sport shop owners and they never come out to look at the deer. It usually just takes Indiana a few years to catch up with the good ideas, thank goodness. We do our part to kill the deer and should not be burdened with a silly check in system that wastes gas, time, and possibly meat.

Telecheck would be nice and I have had some places come and look at the deer I killed and others just give me a tag and let me go on my way.

When my local CO dropped off my check station stuff he told me it would probably be the last year for it. Probably going to tele check next year.

Of course, without check -in stations, there is no easy, reliable way for DNR officials to inspect large numbers of deer for data collection purposes. It would also make it a lot easier for the guys tagging deer for the wife and kids to get away with it. I fully agree with the convenience arguments for telecheck, though. It sure would make things easier. I like Tele-check and have used it in KY but the guys who shoot on wifes or kid's tags will do it either way tele check or not.

The person who takes the deer must cause the delivery of the deer to an official deer check station
This was taken out of the registration book. I didnt notice that until now. how do you cause the delivery?

By asking someone to take it there for you.

That about kills the argument for it keeping a guy from checking in "his wife's" deer doesn't it. The cheating argument just doesn't hold water. I hope it does start next year.

Before I moved to Kentucky, this past Spring; I hunted last fall on my property in Indiana. I got my Deer on the second day of the season, and took it to the closest checking station. They didn't even go out to my car to examin the Deer! They just handed me a metal tag and that was it.

in 30 years of deer hunting, I have only had ONE person come out to check/see the deer.......he was an officer at the police station I checked it in at and just wanted to see my buck(he was a hunter too)

In 35 years of deer hunting I'm about 50/50 on having someone verify the deer for me. Part of the reason is that the butcher we use now is also a check-in station.

Not that difficult if ya cant check it dont kill it. And that's exactly what's happening. There's been many times I would have loved to be out hunting with my son, but had to work the next day (12hrs +2hr commute), and had no way to get an animal checked in. Our check in system is a joke. Yes it is!

A joke that worked for how many years? I am not against Tel-e-check, but I think the "need" for it comes out of the convenience people want.

At a time when the nation is trying to save money and cut fuel consumption, its a GREAT idea. State saves money by not having paid employees run all over the state collecting the data sheets, saves money by NOT paying other people to enter all that data into computers, saves state money not covering gas to retrieve all that data, saves US money in time and gas trying to find an open check station. Its WIN WIN. Saves the state money (and trees) by not having all that paper too. the list goes on.

The local Super Wal-Mart is checking in deer this year. I'm hoping that means 24-7. Last year Rual King wouldn't check in my boy's deer 15 min. before closing time. The next day I had to drive my truck to work and my wife took the boy back to Rual King to check in, and they demanded to see the deer. Yes it was warm out and I was very PO.

The argument of not having Conservation Officers driving all over their districts collecting check in sheets.....AND........not having to pay data entry employees to enter the data is very good.
I wonder if this would be a savings enough to fund tele-check?
I'm not for or against it, my check station (Gatesville Store) is about 1 mile from where I hunt normally, Robin (the store owner) ALWAYS comes out and watches you put the tag on I think she just likes to see the deer.
I primary hunt weekends due to my work and my son's school, presently I won't hunt Sunday afternoon/evenings because if we hit one late we won't have time to track and check the deer without it interfering with work or school on Monday.
