So thought I would get an All day Sat hunt in this coming weekend; but started to think: I'm flying out on Sunday to NJ, so if I do get a late deer on Sat than I have no way to check it in. Could ask the wife (yeah right). I have to say that this check in requirement serves no purpose; what information can't be sent by phone or Internet. It's worst with the warm weather; you have to wait until you checkin before butching so if you took a late Sunday deer and had to work Monday .. than you have the issue of trying to keep a whole deer cool down. They sure don't make it easy.

I hear ya! We hunted MO last year and it was really convenient. I think we'll go that way in the next couple years.

Especially since the checkers aren't even required to come and look at or tag your deer. If people wanted to lie, they could do it just as easy now!

Turkeyscout and I were discussing this yesterday. Come on Indiana get with the program. We both agree it serves no purpose.

Not that difficult if ya cant check it dont kill it. Just curious. Do you not want Tele Check? If not, could you explain your reasons?

Not that difficult if ya cant check it dont kill it. And that's exactly what's happening. There's been many times I would have loved to be out hunting with my son, but had to work the next day (12hrs +2hr commute), and had no way to get an animal checked in. Our check in system is a joke.

I thought about this, alot! How about you skin the deer and leave the head attached (for gender ident.). Take the skin and head in the next day to get a tag. I only have a regular refig, not a walk in. So, if I arrow a deer at last light (7 p.m.) and the check stations are closed.......sounds like forced wanton waste to me.

Pretty sure the deer has to be whole.

....sounds like forced wanton waste to me. Obviously you won't be able to arrow a deer at last light if you can't check it in and have fears of it spoiling. I would rather NOT hunt than take that risk. By no means am I against TC. As hunters we have responsibilities and owe it to the game and our image.

Of course, without check -in stations, there is no easy, reliable way for DNR officials to inspect large numbers of deer for data collection purposes. It would also make it a lot easier for the guys tagging deer for the wife and kids to get away with it.
I fully agree with the convenience arguments for telecheck, though. It sure would make things easier.

I've never personally had a checker look at the carcass, they just took down the info. I could have been phoning them in all along. Viva telecheck!

And then we can all complain about tag prices going up ! lol
I've never seen it as a big deal to get one checked in especially in 48 hrs. You dont HAVE to check them in at your local home town place. Traveling 2 hrs to hunt and back some where along the way is a check in station...
Dont get me wrong, Ive hunted Missouri too and yes it is nice to be able to do it by phone.

I never been to place where they didn't come out and and verify me locking the tag on deer. Even last week they still did even though they're not required.
