Archery should be archery, regardless of a start and stop date. Same with firearm season.
As far as youth season goes, i think they should get a pre and post weekend. But definitely move it out of Sept.
If a mature hunter doesn't understand the importance of a youth only season, then in my book, they aren't much of a sportsman. IMO.

Indiana is getting ridiculous. Just sat down with my work calendar for next year and was able to check my days off for every Illinois and Kentucky season. All I know for Indiana is the gun opener which I could care less about. When will we know the set dates for archery and the youth weekend?

Let me share a little secret with you all. Neither one of the newly proposed seasons was the DNR's idea. They wanted the past years changes to ride. Political pressure was put on them and here we have the new season proposals. IMO - these proposals are a foot in the door for something else.
So, a lot of the blame towards the DNR is misplaced...

You folks that want less change need to work on it through your local legislator. If you don't youll end up getting what the IBA and IDHA want you to have because they are already working it from the top.

If some of those guys had their way, there would be about two weekends of gun season pushed way back in December or January...or maybe no gun season at all. Although some of them seem to respect muzzleloaders...so they might throw them a little scrap somewhere.
I saw one of them on another site post these words on a thread where someone had harvested a buck with a bow during the gun season.
"I respect you taking a buck with a bow during gun season. Anyone can kill one with a gun" (paraphrased)
That right there made me so angry I wanted to spit. That kind of pompous attitude turns me off so much.
There is a lot of skill involved to be successful in all forms of hunting. In fact, one of the most experienced, skilled, and successful deer hunter/woodsman I know does not hunt with a bow or crossbow at all. He only hunts gun season. The person who made the comment above probably wouldn't respect this guy as a hunter at all, and that is a dirty shame.
Truth be told, anyone can kill one with a bow too, if the cards fall right at the right time. Let's not get carried away here.

In archery you do pick a spot dont you That's why it's a sport. Not only do you shoot for a spot, but also have to come out a spot on the far side. Lot more fun than shooting em in Dec. and Jan. where you get 3 for one shot. Meat hunting rocks!

That's like saying it doesn't matter if they have spots, because they eventually go away.

Yes to more time to hunt, the southern tier where I live could easily support the additional cull. No to excluding any legal weapon for any reason. All or none, I'm sick of the elitist aholes trying to hose everyone else.

If this trend of answers continues will the results be sent to the state? I thunk I remember in the past being told something along those lines.
This question specifically asks if the respondent would support it without the inclusion of xbows and the most popular answer so far is yes.

I know for a fact that folks within the DNR read here frequently. That is one reason we have an "open read forum"..
I have no problem at all sharing what the folks here (that are willing to share their thoughts) are thinking.
Personally I have no problem with this early vertcal only archery season as long as it does not change dates and kick crossbowers out of our established season.
But you can believe that there are some folks that are trying to get that done..

Same elitists that want the gun season pushed into January and out of "their" rut?
