I go back to my original point. Who will hold Commissioner Goodell and the Ravens organization accountable for their mind boggingly shoddy handling of this at every stage? Let's use an analogy. Let's say, God forbid, that Woody got arrested and convicted of DUI. He goes through the process and gets a $5000 fine and his license is suspended for 6 months. Then, someone produces a video that shows Woody driving erratically that night before he was arrested. Suddenly the judge recalls the case and throws Woody in jail for a year and suspends his license for 2 years. Can someone explain how a video that showed EXACTLY WHAT WE ALREADY KNEW HAPPENED changed the punishment so much? It should have had NO BEARING on the case at that point. Totally ponderous!!! (Oh and sorry for dragging your good name through the analogous mud, Woody...I just used you because you are a celebrity here )

Uh oh.... I thought that was a secret .. OK Met.... How much do you want for the video? I Agree. The NFL knew something was way out of line with the original video of him dragging her out of the elevator and his subsequent punishment by the law. They tried to sweep it under the carpet. The Commish should have done a lot better job of investigating but chose not to. A pox on their house..... Me? A "celebrity"? Funniest thing I've heard in awhile...

What has CHANGED that enticed you to start this thread now???

I think what met is saying was it is the same crime. It was not denied by anyone the way that it happened, and a two game suspension was enough. Now that the video shows what everyone already knew happened he is suspended by the league indefinitely. There was no way to compare the difference in punishment until it actually happened.

What has CHANGED that enticed you to start this thread now??? Oh, I was griping about the light 2 game suspension on Facebook months ago. Especially in light of Robert Mathis getting 4 games for taking a fertility drug so that he and his wife could have a baby (which worked). But the whole point of this post is the lunacy of changing the penalty just because a video surfaced 3 months after the fact that does nothing more than verify what was already known. It's just another flat out embarrassment to the league. Goodell has botched every move in this chain of events about as badly as could be done.

Do some research on the drug Mathis tested positive for.....clomid.
Common usage in the world of PED's as a post cycle restart or as a natural testosterone booster without doing a cycle.
It is most certainly a PED and that is why its on the banned list.

No one said it wasn't. But it was a legit use that was effective for the purpose it was prescribed. Mathis made a mistake by not checking with the league first. He admitted it. He paid a high price. BUT...the fact that his price was TWICE the initial penalty handed down to Rice for cold cocking his fiancé and dragging her limp body off an elevator is INDEFENSIBLE!

So you choose to believe the "honest mistake" angle?
I would have to see the paperwork leading up to a legitimate perscription from the Dr before I would believe it.
As far as I know clomid is not fda approved for use in men....would add an additional snag to getting a legitimate perscription.

I guess i don't see how nfl is wrong. Clearly they had policy that said if you get caught doing drugs you get x penalty. If you get arrested off the field or cause harm to the team or the league then you get y penalty.
Met, as a school teacher you are in a similar role model to your students as a pro athlete is, albeit not as glamorous. If you get arrested for dui or tax evasion do you think you would be fired? How about domestic battery? I know i would probably not but i am not a public figure so to speak. And lets be honest, it wasn't the crime but the damages caused to the teams and the league's marketability. I would be fired if i damaged my company's marketability.

Again...I ask...
Why did the video change the punishment? The whole thing had been settled...like the punishment or not.
What new crime was revealed by the video?

Damage to the league marketability, plain and simple.

It has to be, Duff. But the way it's been handled has been very damaging too. Dozens of articles today calling for heads to roll.

Play with fire you get burnt. Hire dirt bags and you will get dirty.
I don't see how they could do any differently. They could do like police depts and put a guy on paid administrative leave until all the facts are fleshed out....that is real popular usually. Act too fast you are danged, act too slow you are danged, act too severe you are danged, act too easy you are danged...glad i don't have to manage a bunch of pumped up millionaires.
The reporters are making hay while the sun shines. It is an emotional subject and like it or not seeing it is totally different than reading or hearing about it.

They have opened themselves up for a huge lawsuit based on double jeopardy. It's going to get ugly!

The nfl is not the court of law. They did not put him in jail, they fired him.

Anything that can be tried in a court of law can be tried in civil court. Ask OJ Simpson.
