It's hard to say. All we know for sure is that they were caught breaking one rule consistently. People keep yammering on about this "long list" of cheating and all I can find is the once incident with Spygate. How is once incident a "long list?" Literally, I Google this dude and all I can find is that he broke one rule. I mean seriously this is like a first time DUI offender with a previously clean record being deemed as having a "long list" of criminal offenses. How??? Really crappy journalism to be honest. After reading about the whole Spygate debacle I can honestly say that that the rules regarding the videotaping were somewhat inconsistent. I guess I was expecting some HUGE travesty like them having hidden video cameras in the locker room or a secret agent ball handler on the opposing team that sends encoded messages to Belichick via telegraph. I mean for pete's sake, they had to send a memo out to clarify that what he did was actually cheating. So they had to sit there and actually debate if what he did was wrong which in of itself is kind of weird. On a side note, I didn't even know the whole videotaping the opposing team coaches during the game thing was such a big deal. I honestly thought if you were out on the field, then anything you did was fair game to videotape and that this was a regular thing coaches did like coaches handing out game tapes for team players to review to study opponents. It could be worse. They could be paying bounties on players to encourage them to get injured. Oh wait... that was New Orleans. Or steroids. Oh wait that was Colt's safety LeRon Landry and Robert Mathis (yes we know it is off label fertility treatment but rules are rules according to ya'll!) Last year it was Colt's Weslye Saunders. BUT OMG DEFLATED BALLS PEOPLE!!!!!! Maybe it depends on what team or coach you like or dislike.

People can try and justify things any way they wish, but the hard truth is this.... 1. The balls were inspected before the game and given to a ball attendant....And "somehow" between that point and the game, the balls were deflated. 2. The coach of the patriots cheats. He paid a $500,000.00 fine for cheating. 3. The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. Hard to argue with that There ya go...well said. I believe they use dry nitrogen in the balls to air them up, just like car tires so cold temp won't cause psi drop....not to mention it was 51 degrees when the game was played...hardly cold.

You can tell deer season is over. 7 pages of arguing over football psi. I guess I'll throw my thoughts out. The Patriots coach is a slime ball. He is a proven cheater. I can't stand him and his attitude. The sad thing is that they didn't have to cheat to win the game. The Colts didn't play well enough to pose any threat. If they can prove Belichick knew about the football pressures they should suspend him for a season like they did Sean Peyton.
From what I have seen reported all 12 of their footballs were below the limit. 11 of the balls were more than 2 lbs below the limit. I can't imagine the temperature has anything to do with one teams balls being affected and the other teams not being affected. I'm sure the separate rooms they used to inflate the balls were fairly close in temperature. The footballs were checked at halftime and that's when they were found to be under inflated. The Colts made a complaint to league officials about the Patriots football being under inflated after their regular season game in November. Sounds like this isn't the first time a miraculous pressure loss affected only the Patriots footballs.

Losing a first round draft pick is really no big deal since it would probably be number 32 anyway...
Money? Ha-ha... No big deal either ..

If it is proven that the Pats did cheat on this game that makes the entire season suspect. So what does the NFL do about that? Just give them a TSK, TSK and let it ride? This is like a deer hunter that could not stand it and poached a nice buck and got caught. Every buck (even if legal) that he has ever killed becomes suspect. Look at the downfall of some "celebrity hunters" who got caught. B & C and P & Y throws out all records of anyone caught poaching. No the difference is that the poacher is breaking the law and the pats might have broken a GAME rule. With that thought and everyone calling for Bill's firing, let's get ol Irsay outta the league. Heck he could have killed a whole family. Look I'm a life long Pats fan. I'll say it here. Bill knows the rule book front to back. He will push and bend those rules to win. Two things happened here. It was done or the balls weren't completely checked correctly. How many of you guys here work with guys that have to inspect a certain product. How many of those guys do 100% inspection every time. Time after time. Did they do it??? Yeah. They did. As a Pats fan ill admit it. Anything going to come out of it? No. They won't be able to prove anyone in the organization did it. Suspect yes, prove no.

After all these pages, the funniest comparison I have ever read was the race car tire comparison. Give me a freaking break. There's a lot more causing that tire to heat n build pressure than the ambient air temp. Track temp gets higher as a race progresses, extreme heat build up from friction and brakes, etc.
Back to football. Pats are known cheaters. Nothing new here. NFL will do nothing above a slap on the wrist. Same old same old

Even though we want all professional sports to be about competition they are really just a business and about money. Having a bad guy is good for business. I would equate what the Patriots did to calling in sick when you really just want to go hunting. Sure they broke a rule set by the corporation, but they didn't break any laws.

The timing of this is bad for the NFL .... Super Bowl week and the year they have had with Peterson and Rice.
With the single incident in the past where the Pats and Belichick were disciplined for "cheating" I will not be surprised if the league comes down harsh .... assuming they are able to actually determine that what happened was intentional and someone associated with the Patriots is responsible.
Unless someone talks that will be a tall order .... there are reasonable explanations of how it may have happened so unless someone admits doing it there may not be much the league can do about it.
We shall see .....

Cheating impacts millions of people and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

Oh, and I have just publicly resolved (on Facebook) to not let what others think, write, say, or do, drag me into negativity. Life is too short, so all you who disagree with me, so be it. Your opinions are as valid as mine. And good luck to the Patriots. Wow...I just typed that and I did not puke! How liberating!

You are comparing a law to a game and betting on said game. In gambling you have to remember, the house always wins. The point spreads take many things into consideration. If you follow sports books and gambling you will see, they are rarely off. Again not taking anything away. I'm a pats fan. They did what they were accused of. But comparing cheating to breaking the law of the land is a little far fetched.

If the day ever comes where the folks who run the gambling world believe that inconsistencies in the game are causing them to lose money you can bet your rear end it will stop ......
The kind of money we are talking about is the kind that guys disappear forever over.

Bill Belichick is saying during a new conference that he is "shocked" about the ball situation and had "no knowledge of the process" of what happens with the footballs before or during a game and has "no idea" what could have caused the loss of air pressure.
These guys are total control freaks about ever single detail of the game and yet he is clueless about the whens, whys and hows of the how the balls are prepped for games.....Really......
I'm surprised his pants didn't burst into flames.....

Span870,
I wasn't comparing law breaking with rule breaking. I was saying once a person or an organization breaks a rule or a law then any and all of their previous accomplishments become suspect. The "huntng celebrities" that were busted pay a much greater price as they are ostracized by the hunting community, their livelihood taken away from them, and their previous records stricken from the books.
In the meantime NFL teams get a chump change penalty and a loss of a 32nd draft pick. Big deal, eh? Then back to business as usual...
Now I hear that the Ravens also suspected the NE used under inflated balls in their game. That was a one score game so one catch could have made difference in winning and losing and advancing it not advancing.
