Game over. No turkey down. Farm trucks, tractors and planters pulled in. Heard gobbler bust through the woods the same time I watched a doe bolt through to the south. Some days ya just ask...WHY??? Sooooo close. That is hunting for you! Better luck next time..

I'm live from the woods. First time I've done this. No gobbles and couldn't locate any roosting, so planted on a ridge for the day. Found a nice water hole back here too. Wednesday when my daughter and me found this spot, she said "Dad, I think we found a gold mine.". She thought it was a good spot.

Sooooo close. My brother in law drove by on a tractor bush hogging and we talked briefly while in my blind. He took off and 5 mins later a Tom came right in while he was bushing the field next to me. They don't care about farming equipment. I would stay

My wife says that I'm the only turkey in these woods and I'm starting to believe it.

Took a friend out tonight. Soon as we were crossing the field we found a strutter with 3 hens. We tried to call to Jim and the ladies but they weren't interested. We moved on into the woods set up. Heard one gobbling and heard one fly to the roost.

Observed four toms yesterday morning, in my back field, close to my home; with one being a good sized one with a 10" beard, as far as I could tell. There were two hens present, and lots of gobbling. Beautiful sight!

Heard one gobble fairly close at day break. Now have rabbit dogs running not too far away. This happened when I hunted here at mississinewa about 10 years ago.

Clark county woods. Working a couple of toms. Less than an hour. Seem hung up Hang tight jimstc...many times those Toms will gobble early on w/hens, and when the hens break off later in the mid morning they come to where they heard your calling earlier...I'd sit tight until 12 noon and call every 20 minutes or so..those birds heard you, they will show up on their time...might have to wait em out a while.

A little gobbling but pretty sparse and nothing very close. Called sparingly and 15min or so after my last set I started hearing something off to the left and behind me in the woods ; was hoping it was a bird but never could see it. 10min later out of the woods line pops a Tom maybe 25yds out. My blind is between it and JDUB. whispered to him bird get ready - no response. Bird sees my Avian-X jake and he is coming in for the kill. JDUB has to see him now he is almost to the deke; I whisper "shoot"; nothing. Oh no he's fallen asleep I'm thinking. Bird s now right behind the jake and about to get it on. I'm thinking "great, my Avian-X is about to get mauled". Finally BOOM, a few feathers fly and the bird is taking to wing - crippled bird I'm thinking, not good! However JDUB quickly racks another shell and this time he hits home. Birds drops like a dive bomber and he's out of the blind faster than I could stand up, Dead bird when we walked up on it. 9.5" bird 7/8" spurs. We done! Turns out there was a branch in the line of fire for him and was waiting for it to clear.

No turkey for me this year either.
I did talk with a fella who hunted Atterbury and did well. I know they don't have a handicap area, but I'll check it out for next year. I think they have some fields there.

Well, we had them coming in. Then they stopped. Soon their gobbles were farther away. Darrin and I are wondering what the heck is happening. Felt it was hens. So we moved toward them and set up closer and made a few calls. No response. Then it became clear what had happened. We were on the edge of our property. We then hear a slate call. The adjoining property owner was in his field working the birds too. His approach to the woods we were in was across a clear field. The birds probably saw him coming and moved to the south which was the opposite direction of his approach and pushed them farther from us. We then decide to flank the movement he was making on the assumption that he would push the birds to us. We moved parallel to him, south and east. Set up for another hour, periodically calling. Nothing. We were several miles into the woods and as we walked out we would set up and call awhile to no avail. Covered some of the steepest ground I have been on since Colorado. Saw turkey signs everywhere. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. Hunting the Lawrence county lease tomorrow.

Sounds like you were in the game for a little while anyhow Jim. Definitely a bum deal. I hope you have more success tomorrow!
