...been paying for cable and now satellite for too many years. What's out there in free tv in central indiana? I don't get anything on the old rabbit ears I dug out of the closet. What do I get with a digital outdoor antenna? How many channels out there now days?

If you live a good ways away from where your local FOX, CBS, ABC, CBS, etc affiliate broadcast, you may need a better antenna to pick up the signal. I have my TV's set up to pick up my local digital signals, my cable TV and we stream some programming over the internet.

I had a friend who got a lot of channels.
I actually watch a lot of shows on Netflix, especially off the air series that I'd never seen. It's fun to watch the shows back to back.
I like my monster shows, so I will just change providers when it gets too high.

Up here in NE Indiana we get 14 channels 2 of which are weather from local stations. Regular CBS ABC NBC FOX AND PBS. We also subscribe to Netflix. You will need a HD TV converter if your TV is not HD. I run an antenna on a 20 foot tower with a direction motor. I never turned it after I got it dialed in. I also run a signal amplifier.

I like my monster shows, so I will just change providers when it gets too high. I have Directv and also Netflix, Jon. Use the Directv hook-up for watching the news, and use Netflix for watching some of the old shows, ~WITHOUT ANY COMMERCIALS!~ Enjoy Netflix but they [could] get a better selection of Horror movies; also I noticed their removing the sitcom "Coach" on the 15th of September, I am only halfway through season two!

What do I get with a digital outdoor antenna? How many channels out there now days? Just to see if those antennas worked; I bought one and installed it. It didn't worked and I could only get 1 KET station. So I took it back to Walmart. You have to be within 50 miles of a station in order to receive their broadcasts. You [might] be able to get your local news channels on your computer.

A nice local antenna with an amplifier is going to set you back somewhere around $300. I can give you a name and number of a friend who can help you with the specifics if you want. I'm getting ready to hook one up and turn off directv now that I have Netflix.
