This is what was swarming my outboard. Guessing it was what the fish started hitting. Chironomid Midge

Made it out for a few hours this evening. Bite got better the later it got. Most everything was 4-5" long, but was able to land 6 to fillet. Lost one keeper right on top of the water. Biggest redear is a hair over 9 1/2". Water temp was 56°. Everything caught on bottom from 3' to 12' on red worms. Bigger redear was in 9' and the other one just a bit shorter was in 3'. Bluegills were all in 12' of water. As I was leaving, fish started hitting something on top of the water all over the place! Some kind of bug with feathery antennae were all over my outboard. I read the first part of your post and was wondering what you were using for bait. Then I read the rest...lol I don't make it out hardly at all this time of year but redworms make sense. Smaller than a crawler but bigger than a wax worm.

Pretty slow day on Monroe. Fished with Freedomhunter and we blanked yet again.... well I got a small crappie and a small perch after he left. Guys were pulling in the little ones like mad off the docks at paynetown.
Looked like most were using minnows but I bet if you found the right jig it would be easy limits

We never really have caught any big ones off the docks at cutright or paynetown, but if their there there’s plenty of them.

Done the last of the Europeans today. Next week I start scouting for fish, got company coming up from Indiana for a one week fishing trip. 7-8 inches of ice, will be 4 wheeler travel only. Not enough snow for sled but I’m not complaining!!!

Caught 7-8 keeper sized gills this morning, came home and took jerky out of dehydrator, went back out for walleye this evening. Only caught one outside the slot. Never kept any of the gills. Ice is pretty iffy this year with all this global warming we are having 😜. First lake this morning there was a solid 8 inches, this evening on winibigosh lake ice was only 6, one spot was 5. Made it a little sketchy driving the small 500 Ranger!!! Think I’ll switch to the 4 wheeler for awhile. If there was enough snow I would take the sled.

Big fish is a redfish(red drum) others are grey snapper on table. Trigger and a flounder didn't stretch

Foggy this morning, was off the lake by 8:30am. Crappie and gill limit. I am jealous. At this rate we may not get any good ice this year.
