I'd squirrel hunt this week however it's been too cold and I have school that started up this week. Have been seeing the little fluff balls around the yard though.

I’m not a squirrel hunter so tell me when to wrap this up, please. You can stick a fork in it any time. If the weather allows, we will be back out some more. We wont make a dent in the final score since it looks like a runaway. But no matter, just in it for fun obviously. We greatly appreciate the effort you put forth in these contests. Thanks a bunch.

Thought I would wait till it was as warm was it was going to get, but they must have been moving earlier than 2pm. Saw plenty of tracks, but zero squirrels. Next Saturday is supposed to be back to more normal temps. Maybe still make it out once more.

I saw lots of tracks when I was out at 3pm, but no fur. I agree, maybe late morning is the ticket?

Out for two hours this evening and went to a slightly different spot on the property I've been hunting. This was very close to the highway in an area where I'd seen a lot of squirrels last January. This male grey was with another and I walked in on them. First shot appears to be a miss. The other hid in a hole while he fled up a big oak. I couldn't find him for about 10 minutes and went and sat nearby. Another 15 minutes plus pass and no more squirrels appear. So I got up and circled the tree again. Finally saw squirrel crouched up against a crook in the tree. Took me another 5 minutes to find a good shot position. He dropped on the second one. Please add for Team 3.

My son is trying to get his cur dog started and we're having a hard time finding squirrels. They're usually plentiful when we're not hunting them. He did tree a coon the other day.

I seen a guy live trap a squirrel. He kept it in the cage by a tree and let the pup find it. Then he would raise it a foot or so every day and let the pup find it till it was pretty high and the pup knew to look up for it.

Please add 1 more to Team 1. Was hoping to exact a little revenge for Saturday afternoon's skunking I received. Forecast didn't match reality too well, but I went anyway. Foggy and misting a bit. Walked the same woods as I did Saturday and only saw one squirrel. Super young male was shot just before leaving the woods. Saw another one in a yard not far from the house. Maybe I hunted too early today. 🤷♂️ Personal total is now 73. Might get another chance Saturday. I don't understand the lack of damage to the head. Entrance is between the eye and ear on this side and a hole about the size of a dime on the other side. Maybe 25 yard shot. Usually the 17HMR would have took most of the head off, but didn't this time.

Hit a prairie dog and it explodes, next one just tips over. Hit a soft spot and going too fast in that short of distance is my guess.

I know the 17 hp TNTs are VERY explosive!

We just dont have the numbers up here to consistently score a lot.

That's awesome!
I like to hunt them way more than eat them. Just too much prep with fox squirrels since so tough.

Game changer for me was baking or boiling in water for 2 hours and then breading and deep fryer just long enough to brown the breading. Everything is tender and delicious! Abbie and I can go through a day's limit in one meal.

Please add 1 more to Team 1. Another very young male like yesterday. I had not been to this section of Glendale for 2 years and it was always a good producer. They logged the crap out of the part nearest the road. Only saw 1 squirrel in that part and it was only its tail as it ran into a den hole. I made a huge loop deeper than I've ever had to go and ended up only seeing the one I shot. I did see plenty of leaf nests, so maybe they just weren't out this morning. I got back to the truck as the first rain drops were falling. Then as I got home I saw this dang tick crawling on my hand! Didn't take long after the single digit temps for the little buggers to start running around again!! Personal total is now 74.

By my count I need one more squirrel to equal last year's total. I hunted from 930 until 2 today and only saw one. He disappeared into his hole as I tried to put the sneak on him. Other than the lackluster squirrel action I did see a forky, a doe, and two rabbits. I think I will go back down tomorrow with the shotgun and look for those rabbits to be in the same vicinity.

Took a friend out and between 10:30 and 2:00 we saw six, in our last spot we were walking in and a big fox squirrel came running towards us. I drew the bead on him but missed. We were already headed to an oak tree that I had spotted a different squirrel heading up. Took us a few minutes to find that squirrel after we got to the tree, and another 15 minutes to get a good shot on it. My friend took it and the squirrel came down very quick, but was only favoring a leg. I shot three times, once right before it reached the ground, once as it reached ground, and once as it hurried away. It headed towards the highway and we followed it. My friend got another, closer shot off as the fox squirrel was watching us from the base of a tree. It flipped out and headed across the fence and closer to the highway. My friend went and looked for it to try and get it back on our side but it went into a culvert. So no squirrels came home with us.
