Took a friend out and between 10:30 and 2:00 we saw six, in our last spot we were walking in and a big fox squirrel came running towards us. I drew the bead on him but missed. We were already headed to an oak tree that I had spotted a different squirrel heading up. Took us a few minutes to find that squirrel after we got to the tree, and another 15 minutes to get a good shot on it. My friend took it and the squirrel came down very quick, but was only favoring a leg. I shot three times, once right before it reached the ground, once as it reached ground, and once as it hurried away. It headed towards the highway and we followed it. My friend got another, closer shot off as the fox squirrel was watching us from the base of a tree. It flipped out and headed across the fence and closer to the highway. My friend went and looked for it to try and get it back on our side but it went into a culvert. So no squirrels came home with us. We think the squirrel had thicker than normal skin which would have prevented serious injury from the shotgun shot.

Please add 5 more to Team 1. Wanted to get the Arctic Cat back home in case I get the chance to push some snow with it yet this winter, so headed to the firearms deer spot to see if I could break 75. Got #75 on the way to the blind. Next 2 were shot from the stand. Didn't see any more for a while, so I went to collect those 2 and saw 3 more running around a tree about 50 yards out. #78 stood up and gave me a clear shot. Moved up a little closer because I couldn't see the other 2 and #79 popped his tiny head around the tree to see who was clearing the woods of little noise makers. 😁 Abbie said to bring 5 more home this afternoon. Didn't want to disappoint my kid. 🤣 Now I'm getting peer pressure from the family to get one more before season goes out. May have to run out after work tomorrow and try for an even 80. Personal total is now 79.

We were hoping to make one more trip to the skurry woods this weekend. But the crappy weather kept us out. Fog, then slop and soup from melting off 2 feet of snow and an inch plus rain, and then wind this morning. Just a recipe to skip the woods and take it easy instead. A little time left for rabbits.

I tried again this evening but the fox squirrels lives to see another day again. Saw another fox squirrel at the beginning but lost sight of it. Saw a grey too but it saw me and ended up not coming over the fence to the property I was on. Might try again today or Wednesday. I have decided though that I will try my luck at rabbits for a while. We have plenty that use our yard and pasture and yeah, I know when they tend to come out the most!

Redemption for the last three days of hunting and missing or losing every single squirrel came this evening. Three fox squirrels were in trees as I walked in and patience paid off with two of them. I went and tried to chase some rabbits in the small bit of field but I only saw one and it went where I couldn't find it again. So I went back to the tree stand where I had put the squirrels knowing I was going to sit there, and that paid off. I accidentally banged the gun barrel on the bar of the stand when two fox squirrels got me excited and they spooked but within 15 minutes some were back at it. One finally made it's way up a tree close to me heading for it's nest. It saw me and started coming back down to bark at me. I nailed Number 3 then. Number 4 was a grey squirrel but I missed. No more squirrels after that. Please add these to Team 3.

After reading some of your other hunts on here I feel like like this was a big win for you. Fwiw if you know you banged the gun always recheck for zero before your next hunt. Congrats on your sucess.

Thanks. The gun is open sighted and those sights are actually part of the barrel, so it's very hard to knock them out of alignment.

Brian got a picture of this one today. He marked the spot and plans to return. He wants to get it mounted along with a black one.
