1 more for Team 1. Saw one more in the same tree, but didn't ever give me a shot and then disappeared. I watched a turkey dusting itself for a bit.

They were very active this morning where I hunt.I missed the first 1. I went on down farther and shot 1 but as it was falling it grabbed a limb and hung on a few seconds then climbed down the backside of the tree and through the grass it went. I stayed there and checked for another squirrel, saw 1 shot and it dropped with a thud. I looked around up in the tree and saw another 1, shot and it dropped with a thud. I waited a few more minutes and 1 started working through the trees behind me and worked around 180 degrees through them which made me sort of loose my memory of where the 2 I dropped were. I looked around and found 1 but not the other. I went on through the woods and saw 1 a ways off but knew I couldn't get closer without it seeing me so I shot and it dropped with a thud but when I got over there I couldn't find it either. I saw several others I never got a shot at because they kept moving. So I shot 4, am sure 3 are dead but only came home with 1. Sorry for the rambling but anyway add 1 to team 1. I'll try it again next week after the heatwave moves through. Did you make sure to follow up on the first one? When they do that it's best to follow up as quickly as possible. Since I just about always don't make a good first shot, I like to follow up quick.

When I shot, I watched him fall and hit the ground like a brick. Where he fell is pretty thick and I bet I spent about 15 minutes looking for him. I ended up doing a grid search back and forth, then up and down until I located him laying right next to a dead limb laying on the ground. He sure was hard to spot. Sometimes it just takes a lot of patience and hope it pays off. Good luck on your next hunt. When it fell did you immediately mentally mark the spot? This helps with narrowing down the area.

Since I just about always don't make a good first shot, I like to follow up quick. I normally do but as well as he was moving I knew it would be rather pointless plus I knew it'd spook the other squirrels up the same tree. People may not agree with my decision at that point but it was mine to make then and it's in the past now.

Please add 4 more for Team 1. Should have had 5, but missed the first one I shot at. Sure seems to be slim pickins in my usual spots right now. Hope it's just because of the heat. Personal total is 8.

Finally gonna hit the woods Sunday morning. The busy schedule, and of course weather, has put the kibosh on hunting so far.
I put together a new skurry/varmint gun. One I have always wanted to do. It's a 22 Hornet, in another Encore setup that I love so well. Super excited to have a super versatile 22cal centerfire. The draw for me is hand loading, and ability to tune the load, and very frugal on powder charge. Its using only 9gr of powder, and a 50gr hp bullet. The book speed is around 2,100-2,200fps, so basically a warm 22mag load. I only tried 3 loads, and hit the sweet spot right away. It's under an inch at 65yd, so plenty good enough for head/neck shots at normal to long ranges. I'll fine tune further when the leaves start to fall.

I've got 2 G2 Contenders, 1 I use with rifle barrels and 1 for pistol barrels. I use to have just 1 and switched the barrels back and forth but decided after several years to get another. I haven't used either in years though since I don't deer hunt anymore and prefer the 22 rifle now for squirrels since I'm a better shot with it.

Abbie said I needed to fix fresh squirrel for supper. So, Cajun deep-fried squirrel, corn, and garlic mashed potatoes for the win!

Cha ching. New gun works well. About a 40yd head shot, and well, no further description needed. Lol.

Cha ching x 2 now. Long shot, maybe 75yd. I couldnt get steady enough on the head, so took the body shot. Back legs only for dinner. Lol. The landowner wants results, so can't be picky on every opportunity.

You're not missing much meat from those front legs.

Toss these 3 onto team 3 that were dying this morning to join the wife and I for dinner tomorrow.

Add 1 more for team 3. After I cleaned the 3 squirrels from this morning hunt, went in the house and had some lunch. Headed back outside to retrieve my rifle I left leaning against the tree where I was cleaning the squirrels. On my way back to the house this squirrel must have decided to join the other 3 for the big squirrel fry tomorrow. That’s enough for today.

Oh, well it's hard to mentally mark it when it's a long shot and you only know the general area where it landed. That's why I said I probably shouldn't have shot at it.
