Matt, You do realize that Indiana is a fairly small state and has limited resources right? But let's compare your Iowa to our Indiana for non-pay access land. IndianaTotal Acreage - 22,929,000 USFS Acreage - 196,000 State Owned - 306,000 Land open to hunt - 502,000 % of state open to hunt - 2.2 Acres per person to hunt - 0.1 Iowa Total Acreage - 35,749,000 USFS Acreage - 0 State Owned - 266,000 Land open to hunt - 266,000 % of state open to hunt - .7 Acres per person to hunt - 0.1 So Indiana has almost double the acreage open to public hunting that Iowa has. Indiana has three times the percent of its land mass open to hunting that Iowa has. Acres to hunt per person is tied. Source - www.backcountrychronicles.com/public-hunting-land/

Text for the Day -- Psalm 126:1-3 ---------- When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." The LORD has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.
Devotional ---------- When you become aware of what God is doing for you and how God is blessing you, you discover a new attitude. This attitude is almost like an unreal or dream-like state in that it takes you to new places. God actually cares about you and will answer your prayers. You discover God desires to bless your life. Accept those blessings with gratitude and let them fill you with joy and praise.
Prayer ------ Lift my spirit and my vision, O God, that I may live with a new sense of joy in your blessings. Amen

Iowa has the best deer hunting in the world. This is an undisputed fact. The reason Iowa has the best deer hunting in the world is because their firearms season is not in November. This is also a fact. Fact? Really? NUMBER OF B and C ENTRIES FOR 2020-2022Iowa? - Is a distant 5th and sliding down fast (3rd to 5th) Indiana? 2nd only to Wisconsin and progressing fast (10th to 2nd) Data source - www.boone-crockett.org/top-trophy-whitetail-states-2023

Is hunter orange required to hunt coyotes during muzzy season? I can’t find the answer in the regs. Thanks! I honestly didn’t know there was such a thing as any requirements to kill coyotes, but apparently there is a whole season for them! Apparently I’ll need to do some reading before I pursue this endeavor. Open season in private ground with the landowners permission. I don’t have a clue in the Hunter Orange?

I find it hard to believe that Georgia was number one almost all season and they drop completely out of it? Wow!

Oregon is not undefeated . They lost twice to Washington Washington is undefeated Ahhh ok Washington, I admit I don't pay much attention to the west coast teams with the exception of USC I keep an eye on those guys but not much other. I only followed Washington as their quarterback transferred from IU and is in contention for the Heisman trophy. Other than that I couldn’t care less about the left coast teams.

So as Beermaker started, Michigan, Florida St., and Oregon are undefeated power conference champs. Georgia, Alabama and Texas all have one loss. Texas beat Alabama and Alabama beat Georgia. Texas is a conference champ as well. This will be a mess to figure out. Oregon is not undefeated . They lost twice to Washington Washington is undefeated

Text for the Day -- II Samuel 7:18-22, 26-29 ---------- Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and said, "Who am I, O LORD GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O LORD GOD; you have spoken also of your servant's house for a great while to come. May this be instruction for the people, O LORD GOD! And what more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O LORD GOD! Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have wrought all this greatness, so that your servant may know it. Therefore you are great, O LORD God; for there is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
Thus your name will be magnified forever in the saying, 'The LORD of hosts is God over Israel'; and the house of your servant David will be established before you. For you, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have made this revelation to your servant, saying, 'I will build you a house'; therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. And now, O LORD GOD, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant; now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you; for you, O LORD GOD, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever."
Devotional ---------- David prays in response to God's word to him that David's house would be established forever. This Davidic covenant became part of the great hope of Israel that God had established a covenant forever with them. When Jesus was greeted as the Son of David, they were picking up on this theme and seeing Jesus as the fulfillment of this prophecy. Jesus became the ultimate fulfillment of that promise. In him the kingdom of God became visible and in him God promised to preserve it forever.
Prayer --------- Help me to continue to trust in your promise of an everlasting kingdom given through Jesus, Lord. Amen

I was under the impression that the biologist only has the power to make recommendations, is that not correct? Woody can probably answer better than I. But I believe Joe is the head of the wildlife division of DNR and Deer Bioligist. He was promoted and took back over deer biologist position when Chad left. I have been pretty impressed with him. Amanda Wuestefeld, is the Wildlife Division Director, but I guarantee you that whatever Joe wants (deer wise) Joe gets.

Woodmaster had a 350 Legend he used to bear hunt with in Canada. But…. It’s a long story as he now has a 450 Bushmaster. www.ruger.com/products/americanRifleRanch/specSheets/16950.htmlHe got it at Academy for 15% off suggested retail. He was happy. He said it’s the first Ruger he had ever bought. It looked pretty nice. He had another brand in 350 Legend that he had to leave in Canada when he bear hunted. He had scheduled the return flight on a different airline than the one he flew up on. It was a lot cheaper and flew into straight into Nashville. He didn’t read the fine print until too late and it was they would not allow any firearms checked as baggage! He checked back on the original airline and the difference was more than he felt the gun was worth. The outfitter asked him if he was coming back to hunt again and Woodmaster told him yes. The outfitter says he would buy the gun with credit for another hunt so Woodmaster let him have it for $800 credit.

The DNR "was under the gun" (pun) by certain politicians to reduce the herd. The Pol said "do it or we will do it for you". The DNR came up with one proposal and it got shot down as they wanted to shorten and move both the firearm and muzzleloader seasons. 80% of the public input was against that. Proposal 2 was much better accepted. It came into affect in 2012 and unfortunately EHD hit hard that year too. Lots of deer died that year. EHD is a fact of life and has been with us a long time.. I think the present Deer Biologist is more in tune with what is going on with the Indiana deer herd than the previous Deer Biologist. I've had EHD hit my area at least twice that I know of. In a couple years you couldnt tell it was ever hit. Deer are resilient and if you have good habitat deer will backfill from other areas. I see the Special Late Season as a great management tool that can be turned off and on like a spigot. Dont have as many deer as you would like in your area? Dont shoot any does. Pretty simple. I started deer hunting in 1968 and deer were few and far between. I'm used to famine and feast!

SST's are my favorite for my 12 gauge 870. I can't wait to get this set up rolling! I have to change gears because I was thinking a cantilever Barrel now I'll look at Saddle mounts. I always shot 870s for turkey and deer. I tried saddle mounts and the problem I had with that is maintaining the zero. Since the sight and the barrel are independent of each other movement of the barrel (good hard bump or taking it off and on) changed the zero significantly. I put a rib mount cantilever on my turkey barrel and that took care of that problem. I can switch barrels and the zero stays the same. Unfortunately Remington quit making the rib mount cantilever. Take a look at this one as it is similar. It fastens to the rib and extends back over the receiver. sharpshooteroptics.com/products/sun-optics-universal-rib-cantilever-shotgun-saddle-mount
