Text for the Day -- Numbers 16:20-26, 28-32 ---------- Then the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying: Separate yourselves from this congregation, so that I may consume them in a moment. They fell on their faces, and said, "O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one person sin and you become angry with the whole congregation?"
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: Say to the congregation: Get away from the dwellings of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. So Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram; the elders of Israel followed him. He said to the congregation, "Turn away from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, or you will be swept away for all their sins."
And Moses said, "This is how you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; it has not been of my own accord: If these people die a natural death, or if a natural fate comes on them, then the LORD has not sent me. But if the LORD creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up, with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the LORD."
As soon as he finished speaking all these words, the ground under them was split apart. The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, along with their households — everyone who belonged to Korah and all their goods.
Devotional ---------- The rebels thought they were dealing with Moses and Aaron. In reality their rebellion was against God who had chosen and was leading Moses. They paid the consequences of their unrepentant rebellion. It is important to look behind the scenes to know whether or not it is God who is directing the events of your life and not just the people around you. Where does God seem to be in your life right now?
Prayer ------- Help me discern your workings in my life today, Lord. Amen

BTDT…but not to the extent that you did. Sounds like just about cashed in your chips.
I had a few problems when my wife was in the hospital in 2018 for 6 weeks. I chalked it off to anxiety. Since part of her problem was a minor heart attack that snuck up on her I thought I’d get checked. I had the stress test which was inconclusive on part of my heart and the doc said the only way to be sure is go in and look. He did and found a couple veins 75 to 80% blocked. I got those stinted and I am doing fine so far.
Listen to your body folks.

Most people do not need a federal bureaucracy to tell them if inflation is up or down.
We can see it in our the items we actually purchase. Nothing is really going down or staying the sane for that matter.
Well, maybe our 401Ks are going down..

What the political parties or press doesn’t tell you and someone else may have pointed this out is that the current inflation is on top of last year’s inflation so prices are not down compared to when Trump left office. Inflation may have slowed rising as fast as last year but it’s still rising. Bingo!!

Text for the Day -- Numbers 16:1-11 ---------- Now Korah son of Izhar son of Kohath son of Levi, along with Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, descendants of Reuben, took two hundred fifty Israelite men, leaders of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men, and they confronted Moses. They assembled against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, "You have gone too far! All the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them. So why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?" When Moses heard it, he fell on his face. Then he said to Korah and all his company, "In the morning the LORD will make known who is his, and who is holy, and who will be allowed to approach him; the one whom he will choose he will allow to approach him. Do this: take censers, Korah and all your company, and tomorrow put fire in them, and lay incense on them before the LORD; and the man whom the LORD chooses shall be the holy one. You Levites have gone too far!" Then Moses said to Korah, "Hear now, you Levites! Is it too little for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to allow you to approach him in order to perform the duties of the LORD's tabernacle, and to stand before the congregation and serve them? He has allowed you to approach him, and all your brother Levites with you; yet you seek the priesthood as well! Therefore you and all your company have gathered together against the LORD. What is Aaron that you rail against him?"
Devotional ---------- There is a price to leadership. Moses experienced this price often. Rebellion or challenge to his leadership followed Moses throughout his journey with the children of Israel. However, Moses maintained his perspective as a leader. He did not seek to destroy them but always sought to be able to reconcile and keep the tribes together. He was clear that God was in charge and as long as he stayed in the path God was revealing, he was doing his job.
Prayer ------- O God, keep me from the rebellion that haunts my responses to you. Amen

Text for the Day -- Luke 3:7-8, 10-11, 15-16 ---------- John said to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruits worthy of repentance. Do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our ancestor'; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
And the crowds asked him, "What then should we do?" In reply he said to them, "Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise."
As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, "I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."
Devotional ---------- Righteous living is a very concrete and practical matter. Don't steal. Share. Don't cheat. Righteous living is the practical application of love in living God's way. A part of our spiritual growth is becoming aware of those unrighteous behaviors that get in the way of our relationship with God and others. John calls us to repentance. He points us to Jesus as the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will work for our transformation. Listen to the Spirit.
Prayer ----- Open my eyes that I may see myself and you, Lord. Amen

Text for the Day -- Psalm 85:1-4, 8, 10-13 ---------- LORD, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. You forgave the iniquity of your people; you pardoned all their sin. You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your hot anger. Restore us again, O God of our salvation.
Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.
Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other. Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky. The LORD will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before him, and will make a path for his steps.
Devotional ---------- In the psalm there is a sense of the past, present and future. God's forgiving love is remembered from the past. The present is a plea the psalmist raises to God, "Restore us again, O Lord." The future is the hope the psalmist expresses in saying, "Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace with his people, to those who turn to him in their hearts." A most helpful way of praying.
Prayer --------- Guide my prayers, gracious God, so that they may reflect your love and your will. Amen

Ouch.
I’ve hunted Ballard County. At that time it was a deer rich county.
I feel it’s just a matter of time before it hits Indiana..

I retired in August 1995... I thought "Oh boy! I can hunt every day from now on!"
I tried to do just that. I hunted dang near every day. One early December sitting in my stand with a howling wind, 20 degree temps and frozen rain hitting me in the face I came to the realization that I had made hunting into work. I climbed down and went home. Since then I only hunt when I really want to. I sit out the rainy days, the extreme cold days and days I would just as soon stay home. I don't know how many deer I've killed, but I do know one thing - I don't NEED to kill another one. I might have hunted 10 sits in each of last season and this season and that's OK..
I really do believe that IF my grown grandson had not taken up deer hunting I would have probably quit by now. All my old hunting buddies have passed on and it is nowhere near the same. Many a times it is just me hunting my area. I've got friends I can call if I need help tracking and getting one out, and I appreciate that. The comradery and fellowship of fellow hunters is a VERY important part of the hunt. I miss that immensely...BUT I do live through that with this site. It's not face to face but it's still fellowship. I thank all of you for being such a great part of this site.
