I finally started a little prep for the season. Went yesterday and took down one stand to change the cables to chains on it and hung two cell cams. Time is definitely winding down, but work around the house is keeping me busy for sure.

esshup....There in Indiana, down near Cale in Martin County. Been going down since before we had it, was a friends that sold it to my Pop. Probably going down for 45 years, he bought it about 25 years ago though. Now it's his resting place...Thank you..SF Woody Condolences, but that is pretty cool that you made him a part of a very special place to you guys!

Tomorrow I'm heading to my brother farm. I built a small table for the box blind to put my hunting stuff on. I plan to check hang-on stand and take down a hang-on stand. Next, scout the other side of the steep valley for a possible stand location. The issue getting to that side of the valley.

I put up a moultrie camera on the state land near the house about two weeks ago and I’ve only gotten 1 picture it was of another hunter scouting. Tomorrow I’m going to cut it down and try another spot.

Pulled down the crossbow today to take a look at it and get bolt information. Need more bolts (only two good ones and one has no rubber band on the point), more rubber bands, probably more points (I like those Schwackers!). Crossbow itself seems to have the string a little out of line, and there's a crack where the stock joins the rest of the crossbow that got glued last year but the heat has caused the glue to loosen, so now that needs taken care up before any shooting occurs. And my dad cleared a smallish tree that had been bent by a nasty storm we had and was mostly blocking the base of one of our ladder stands on a friend's property. Made for noisy ascent and descent, I squirrel hunted the stand twice before he took out the tree. And the last time I squirrel hunted there a doe showed up across the property line fence about 70 yards away and crossed over until I had to carefully move enough to make her nervous (time to get down from the stand while I still had plenty of light). So that means the deer are still using that area heavily.

Yesterday, I moved my shooting range back 10 yards so I can shoot up to 50 yards. I took two shots at 50 yards and that is all I needed. The Ten Point crossbow is adjusted and ready. My two newest stands both have a 50 yard shot. I hope the big buck is closer than 50 yards.

Had to run out last night and take hunting clothes off the line because we were about to get some sort of strange stuff falling from the heavens. I had forgotten that rain even existed when I hung the clothes out yesterday.

I had forgotten that rain even existed when I hung the clothes out yesterday. I hang mine out and let mother nature wash. Over off season stored in totes with cedar branches, crushed acorns and little dirt in bottom.

Sprayed down all our clothes with permethrin on Monday and let them hang until yesterday. Hate them stupid seed ticks and already got into some when putting out cams last week.

Bought some new bolts, new broadheads, and new field heads yesterday. Now to glue up the hairline crack on my crossbow's stock so that it lasts another year, then shoot the new bolts after that. Planning to be out at least once the first week of October.

I know my plot is in better shape than some due to the dry weather, but the clover is getting straight up crunchy. We need some good rain to freshen it back up. I’ve still got does, fawns, and a couple small bucks hitting it regularly. No bucks of any size anywhere on the property yet. The rye has done pretty well considering the lack of moisture.

Here you can see the clover that gets partial shade, vs. full sun. I also think the trees suck a lot of moisture out of the ground closer to that edge.
