Vacumed out the shoot house, cleaned the windows, laid down some newer carpet and stocked it with necessities.

Found a load I like for my new Ruger Predator 6.5 Grendel. Speer 120 GoldDot. Three shots at 100 yards yesterday after work. Gave the windage one click to the left and called it good. Velocity should be just about 2500 fps according to previous tests with this load in Abbie's rifle (2518 fps). I may carry this lightweight next year.

So my firearms season is over, last night I pulled out the muzzleloader, reset the scope I mounted on it last year because I mounted it the old school way (looking through the scope and eyeballing if the crosshairs were “level” and my OCD won’t let me let it go. I ran a brush through it and boy was I surprised. I thought I cleaned it pretty well after last use but I got a LOT of cr@p out of it. If the rain stops, I’m going to head out to the range at Wilbur wright and get it dialed in again. DeerCast isn’t looking optimistic for the next 10 days, so I think I’ll leave the bow in its case and just wait for next weeks mz opener. 🤷♂️

It showed "poor" for yesterday and I saw a pile of deer and one dandy of a buck and a dozen turkeys at my brother in laws permission farm. If I had the time off, I'd be out with my bow/crossbow for sure!

I just use it as a guideline. I only have a few places I hunt and they’ve all been pretty well pressured for the last three weeks. A little break might do them some good.

My season is pretty much over but, prep is already underway for 2024. Starting inventoring survivors, bought seed for spring plots, prepping protein feeders, bought mineral, ordered ton of feed mix and will get them out in couple weeks. Be out scouting shortly looking for mature buck rubl lines, picking new stand sites, lossening loc on tree stand straps, and removing lifelines, list is long, but always good to get out in deer woods. Hunting partner shot another yote last night. Which is #8 for season between us and couple neighbors.

Two shots to confirm the muzzleloaders are still sighted in is done. Prep complete for muzzleloader season except getting measured powder loads metered out. Took me a while to find a pic of the Encore.

I just bought a ladder stand. A 15.5 height stand. My son is a certified welder and I'm adding about 4-5 more feet of steps to the end. Plan to add a small flat plate to minimize stand sinking into the ground. I have the steel already from my solar stand project. A little customization. This ladder stand will go on that steep top ridge of the farm. This is where the cell camera is located. When the ground freezes this winter I'll get the stand ready for 2024. Hoping last week of the year after Christmas. Company is closed. Bought it from Sportsman Guide. Guide Gear 15.5 with mesh seat and foot rail. Already planning the season. I'll be moving the lane hang-on stand about 50-60 yards on the 2nd ridge of the steep ridge valley. It on the 1st ridge now. There are three smaller ridges that come together to the steep ridge.

If you are adding about a third more height to that stand I would suggest beefing up the ladder also. You modify the original design that much the ladder may not be able to take it. That extra length is going to add a lot more flex and bend. Just a thought, would hate to see you take a 20 foot fall down the ridge.

That's what I was thinking... use the original arm and fab another to place toward the top of your new lower section.

Just left the range. First shot with the muzzleloader was as perfect of a bullseye as I’ve ever seen from a firearm. The second shot went through the same hole so tight that I had to look at the back of the paper to make sure I didn’t miss completely. So I threw it in the truck and confirmed zero on a couple other guns I brought. Looking forward to Sunday!

The new modified ladder tree stand is finished. Five feet added and it's heavy duty. I used my left over steel from the solar mounting stands. I'll take pictures when I get it in the tree during Christmas break. I'm hoping for either dry or frozen ground, so I can drive down the logging trail to the woods trail. It's still a good walk from logging trail to tree. I'm planning on moving the hang-on stand about 50-70 yards down the same side ridge it's on. The side of the ridges down to creek is about 200-250 yards each side and the farther down the steeper it gets. So steep you need to find trees every few feet to stop you going down and trees pulling up going up the ridge face.

I took down my blind from the JP farm last night and retrieved my hay wagon blind from another permission farm before I returned home.
This afternoon, I went to my main permission farm and retrieved life lines, tree hooks and pull ropes. Loosened all the stands and took down my remaining ground blind. Deer season 23-24 is officially over.

I need to go pull my stuff, but at my archery spot it may be the last time for me. The owner passed away and he married on his deathbed. She lives out of town and will probably sell. I've hunted that place since 1988, and it has been a great run. Very consistent place for an early season freezer queen.

Sorry to hear about the landowner passing. Perhaps you can get something worked out with new owners.

Sorry to hear about the landowner passing. Perhaps you can get something worked out with new owners. I've never been able to convince the neighbors to let me hunt on them even though nobody else hunts theirs, but have always been free to retrieve. The place I have my stand is literally 90' wide, but runs the length of an ag field. I have a feeling that the only interest will be for the neighbor to buy it or the one with the field. Either of those happens and I will not be able to hunt it.
