Now and then you'll have to decide whether to shoot "through" brush. To me, this means finding a hole through the brush that allows me to hit the deer where I want, but not hit anything along the way. The hole does not need to be very big, you just need to be confident in your ability to put the bullet in that hole. Within 50-75 yards, I'll shoot through some fairly small holes with confidence. I'll also shoot if the deer is standing in tall grass. One thing to remember, the closer the twig is to the deer, the less it will deflect the bullet. I would not worry too much if a few small twigs were "in the way" if they were within just a couple feet of the deer. yeah i had a few holes but was wondering what if i was off and hit some brush. if i had seen a thread like this beforehand, i think i would have taken the shot. live and learn, i'll get him next year

well considering this was my first season deer hunting, and the biggest deer I've ever seen I was rather proud of myself for not unloading my rifle on him :-) but man that was a nice deer. but I know where he's at now :-)

what do you guys think about head shots? I never hear of people taking them, but I did have a clean headshot on him. does that just make it hard on the taxidermist or is there another reason no one takes them?

yeah forgot to mention, been hunting in ky this week:-)
I saw what you said about taking very little to throw the bullet off, that's what I was afraid of, I assume your answer is the same with a rifle as it is the handgun example you used?

my favorite part of hunting is the research. tracking game trails, setting up and checking cameras, setting up blinds and stands, sighting in rifles... hunting SEASON really isn't hunting to me, it's just killing (hopefully) which justifies all the hunting you did over the summer. the killing season really doesn't even excite me until I've seen a few animals. I'm impatient, jittery and get bored easy so the hunting over the summer really fits me better. it's nice to get away from everything during hunting season and see if all my hard work over the summer was worth it

I have a 7mm rem mag and was wondering how much will hitting a few small twigs effect the bullet path? I had my sights on a nice 10 pointer today but he was behind some brush and I didn't know how the brush would effect the bullet. is it ok to shot thru some brush? I had a clear shot thru the brush, but I was afraid if I was off or something the bullet would have hit some brush. if so would it still kill the deer or just wound him?
looking back, at 3000+ feet a second and less than 100 yard shot I don't think it would have made a difference but I thought I would ask some more experienced hunters before I put a wounded deer in the woods
he would have been my first deer, and an impressive one at that so I'm kicking myself for not at least taking a headshot ( did have a clear headshot, and had it in my scope, but wanted a nice broadside so I could mount the head and have it look nice ). thanks for all your input

I use the ballistics field tactical edition app on my iPhone. it's super accurate, portable since it's on my phone and is very detailed. for 20 bucks it's an expensive app but worth every penny

i had seen that post but a few things make me weary or them. The exotics make me think these are not fair chase hunts It dosent mention fair chase anywhere on the site, even in the FAQ the no kill/no pay policy. It sounds great but again, makes me wonder how fair the chase is if they are willing to risk your money if you dont kill something. Also, a phrase about seeing sign where they say "this means your trophy is visiting the area" - my trophy? All they are describing is SIGN of an animal and they are calling it my trophy? I realize they want to pump you up, but that sounds like fish in a barell to me maybe someone w/ some experience with them could clear up these questions for me?

I'm looking for a boar/hog hunting outfitter in TN, anyone have any suggestions? I would really like a spot and stalk type hunt, and no high fences. I have seen a few on google but most dont say if they are fair chase or not.
if they do NOT say they are fair chase, is it safe to assume they are not? and many of the hog outfitters also have exotic game, should I assume anyone with exotic game would also be fenced hunts?
Would really like a tn outfitter, but i would consider ga or one of the carolinas. thanks for the help.

i dont post much so yall probably dont know me to well, but this season is going to be my first ever deer season (first anything season really). I got serious and bought a tree stand, nice rifle, and a trail cam among other things and this is my first buck sign. not near as impressive as some on this forum, but I think he would make a nice first deer Attachments:

you have to read but the 2nd amendment is pretty clear, most people really try to over think it. A military is a government sponsored army, where you are employed by the government. A MILITIA (which the 2nd amendment says is needed ) is a voluntary, come and go as you want fighting force composed of private citezens. thru history (revolutionary war specificly) militias supplied thier own weapons. the framers saw this as an important reason we won our own independence and knew if we would need to win our indepedence again ( civil war and war of 1812) we would need these same rights. While firearms are needed for a militia there is no indication who should supply the arms exceopt for the "no infringment should be made on the poepls' right to bear arms." easy to put two and two together and see the people supply thier own weapons for a militia
